whats wrong with this amp?

home theater self powered subwoofer... the speaker blew so i took the amp out to plug it into my variety of ghetto brand car subs sitting around in my closet... the second i plug any speaker into this amp the speaker just hums then starts smoking from the coils.... i tried a 4 inch, an 8, and a 12, all do the same thing... none of the speakers were of any use to me anyways, but im just curious if anyone knows whats the deal

I'm not positive, but I think that you might not have the correct OHms for that amp. I don't know if that's the problem, bu i think that most home audio is at 8 ohms. I don't knwo about that amp or sub specifically though. Maybe the amps's fried?

your running a 4ohm load on an amp designed to only put out power into 8ohms.. Home audio gear is much less forgiving than car audio stuff. The wiring is mmuch much smaller and such. you can wire a DVC 4ohm ohm sub to it..

i dont get any sound coming out of the amp at all other than the 60 cycle hum, but yes, it is a standard 60 cycle hum... i deal with that crap all the time due to playing in bands... damn guitar amps and their 60 cycle hums
