ok.... I'm a dumb shmuck..... just getting that outta the way [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif[/IMG] ok anyhow I'm gonna be using a metra harness for my head(deh-p740mp) and I know both come with a color coded chart, but some of the terms used don't match up and the head uses less wires than the harness has so I need to know if all the colors match up (as I know the speakers and ground do) or what.... if someone has done this b4 or knows, help would be appreciated.... wonder how long it'll take to be flamed for being a car audio n00b....

What words don't match up? For the most part, the colred wires match up, but there are some extra wires that aren't used. just tape em off.

pioneer has:
yellow/black - audio mute lead
yellow - "always supplied with power regardless of ignition switch position"
red - "electrical terminal controlled by ignition switch"
orange/white - " to lighting switch terminal"
blue/white - "to system control terminal of the power amp or auto-antenna relay"

metra wire harness:
ignition/acc. - red
batt/memory - yellow
power antenna - blue
amp turn on - blue white
illumination - orange
dimmer - orange/white
phone mute - brown

that's everything minus speakers and ground which are straight forward...... sorry for the vague 1st post

yellow black on the pioneer goes to brown on the metra
Yellow on the pioneer goes to yellow on the metra

warning: do not hook up the metra dimmer wire. you could cause significant damage to your lighting circuit board behind the dash.

tape it up and leave it.

so that means orange white doesn't hook up to orange white
orange white on pioneer to orange on metra then?

i got that head unit. its the shiznit!
if you have aftermarket speakers, watch how they come alive after you put on the HU.
if you have subs( i got 2 12's), you're gonna have to turn the gain down, it really helps amplify the bass.

lots of tuning capabilities, custom settings, and MP3!


btw: how much did you pay? i paid 258 shiped.

and yea - the orangewhite (pioneer) goes to orange (metra). thats how i did mine. works great
