Anyone else able to fit two 15" subs in their Civic?

I'm just curious as to whether anyone has (or attempted to) put dual 15" subwoofers in their trunk. Box dimentions would be appreciated. The largest I have been able to fit is approximatly 15" high X 32" wide X 17" deep. It barely fits through the opening, and maybe it's overkill, but I have enough room in the trunk for daily use...I just don't know what I'm gonna do if I get a flat tire...

P.S. This box looks and sounds like crap...I'm building a new one...you'll see

first of all those look like tempests, am i right?

the largest boxes ive fit in a trunk are net 6 cubic feet, which is perfect for a single tempest to sound good.

as far as ability to fit 2 15's in a civic? well here, lemme show you what you can do!

if i havent been posting regularly, its cause ive been working on this, my latest greatest masterpiece. fit 2 15's in a civic? hows about three? =D

tempest needs about 4 cubic feet minimum to sound good. 4.5 is better, and 6 will throw out some serious pressure!

those two boxes in the pic are both 4.5 cubes, one tuned to 27, the other 23. at 23 Hz, playing songs with 15 Hz tones, I could bounce soda cans off my trunk lid!

if your looking to save space and get FANTASTIC sound, run your tempests isobaric! you could fit the pair clamshell style in a 3 cubic foot ported box, your looking at a LOW LOW LOW bass MONSTER in a civic!

Yes, they are Tempests...but my box is tiny, it's about 3.5 cu ft TOTAL, not each Although you are talking about ported boxes, which require much more space than sealed. The Tempest spec sheet give 3 sealed box sizes: 2 cu ft, 4 cu ft and 6 cu ft, and 3 ported sizes: 4, 7, and 10. I chose the smallest size dut to space constraints. While it might not be 2 cu ft (more like 1.5) I added some polyfill which should help a little.

Do you have plans for an isobaric box for Tempests that will fit in a 7th gen Civic coupe? We need to talk.

And no I don't want to take out my rear seats...that's cheating

lol! well THATS a first, usually people just say holy ****

and yes i DO have an iso design for a pair of tempests, but you should keep in mind the output of an isobaric box is EXACTLY the same as half the woofers in twice the space.

the performance of ONE tempests with 500 watts in 2 cubic feet sealed is EXACTLY the same as the performance of TWO tempests in 1 cubic foot with 1000 watts across them. EXACTLY the same, half the space. that being said, if your ok with giving up the output of a second tempest in order to make the set of both sound fantastic (and tempests DO sound absolutely INCREDIBLE given enough air) then i can design you a GREAT box for them

keep in mind that my experience with tempest is ONLY ported applications, so if you want a sealed box iso, i can tell you what winISD says, but thats it. i have extensive knowledge only ported with this woofer, but if you wanna step up to a ported box (which id highly reccommend, if your going isobaric) then let me know, and we'll come up with a killer design!

Yeah i was like holy sht at first too but theres no way in he11 I would give up my rear seats.

I'm curious about the isobaric box. Right now I'm not even running my amp near full capacity because its just way too loud. I'm afraid my eardrums will burst or the car will fall apart. You say it the isobaric box will be half as loud...but I don't know how loud my system can get.

I might just stick with the sealed. I'm building a new one because the first one I:
a) used 5/8" MDF...too thin
b) had no bracing
c) had a single chamber instead of two separate (also aids in bracing the box)
d) used caulk to seal the subs instead of weather stripping or whatnot (what did you use for Tempests? I'm thinking weather stripping will work well)
e) want to pimp out my trunk ...the new box will be covered in a carbon fiber look sticker and have neons and stuff...wooohooo!

i think iso ported woul dwork out than normal sealed. much warmer deeper bass. 3 cubes tuned to like 25 Hz ish, isobaric would get LOUD in our cars, and still let you pimp out your trunk

i got a couple designs for you. both isobaric, at net 3 cubesish. closer to 3 cubes, the more low bass you get (or over 3 cubes)

you can tune to high 20's, low 20's or something else. flattest response would be low 20's most SPL without sacrificing TOO much your frequency response would be high 20's.

assuming you were using a 4 inch PVC port, 22 Hz and 28 Hz are 20 inches or so and 11.5 inches or so, respectively. if youd like to make a slot port or want to tune at some other frequency or would like to run sealed, let me know.

as far as wiring is concerned, just wire it up EXACTLY like you already have it wired, exept flip the + and - of one of the woofers. they fire against each other, not the same direction, assuming you have a clam shell iso design. twice the force pulling on that 3 cubic feet. it will mimic the response of a single tempest in 6 cubes ported (cna you say low bass monster?) with half the power.

there is only one. tempest is the model name, not the series name. same series as the shiva and the maelstrom, each of 12" and 18", respectively. low frequency beasts, but requre a huge huge huge box to get going. play upper bass reall sloppy, too. definitely not a rock oriented woofer.

and even mowhawk cna appreciate teh efficiency of these woofers. loud with 250 watts, louder with 600

hey whiterabbit, is there any chance you could build me a box to hit low frequencies? if so how much?? I'm ask'n cuz most shops wanna charge me 250 to build a box that hits low like 25hertz.

depends on the woofer. i dont know if speedracersong is gonna keep the box i gave him, but that was designed for a tempest, would work well with a JL 15w6 too, i guarantee that box will hit sub 20 with a tempest, but its all woofer dependant. youll never get an optimous 8" to play 25 Hz at an audible level

and 250 is standard price for a shop to build boxes. I have no problems building anyone in here a box for anything at all, but teh trick is, i dont like shipping them, so you have to pick it up in person. you got no problems with that, ill do the labor for free. last box i built cost $21 in parts, and $23 in aesthetic accessories (carpet) boxes are cheap to build, at that price, its basically even a good idea to grab some wood for yourself and start experiementing. same with box design, grab winISD from www.linearteam.org, thats the exact program id use to design a box fo ryou anyways.

but if you want me to take a look at any idea you have or offer some of my own, just PM what music you like to listen to and what woofers you wanna run, and I'll see what we can do.
