a w6v2 having better sq than a w7? somehow that sounds a little off to me... w7's have an ungodly low amout of distortion... but you're paying some hefty bills for em... but they do look so damn cool...

the guy at tweeter told me that the W6V.2 is a better sq sub than the W7, but the W7 will get louder. i dont think hed try to sell me on a cheaper sub, plus i work with him a lot, so he knows what im lookin for
I was wondering about the 12w3v2 myself I have 3 12wo and they did pretty good but I had to keep my amp set on about 1/4 gain because I fried the first set (thank god for warranty). I thought about changing from 3 12wo to 2 12w3v2, think it would sound better (louder) then I could turn up the gain. I'm using a MTX pro3002 amp 600w RMS 4ohm (I think). What do ya'll think?

i heard the w7s were built poorly. i mean i know it thumps but i heard what the cone is made of is too weak for that much power.. not sure if this is true, just something i heard
w7: yes, arguably one of the best out there currently, efficiency be dammed, mo! amazing clarity, accuracy, power handling, and of course SPL. we HAVE gotten one repair so far, so it is true that it IS possible to crack the cone (thats what the repair was) but i dont have any info about that. the cone is extremely stiff and strong.
10w3v2: the only v2 woofer i have experience with, a pair sealed on a 500/1. the SPL was INSANE. his headlight assembly was rattling, much less the rest of the car. ive NEVER in my life heard 10's like them, i was not in awe, i was in shock to their performance. the rumor I heard was that they are supposed to have more low frequency extension, be able to approach the response of an eclipse, but thats a lie. eclipse can still play lower box to box, but in accuracy they are identical, and in SPL the w3v2 will SPANK eclipse. just an unbelievable woofer. completely. it was unREAL

the GENERAL rule of thumb is the bigger the box, the deeper and louder it will get. this is because most woofers need a HUGE box to have a .707 alignment, and most ppl instaling want to save as much trunk space as possible. Put a JL 12w3 in 1 cube sealed, itll play. put it in 2 cubes, itll get louder and deeper.
if the 12w3v2 has a .707 alignment in 1.25 sealed, dont go bigger. going bigger than that hurts your response, my shop has 4 magmas on a d2 in the show room, box was built to be 7 ish cubes. its supposed to be 5 cubes tho, and it sounds like garbage (sounds good, but its so quiet for 4 12's and 2000 watts!)
JL is very famous for reccommnding boxes that are too small for their woofers. they sound fantastic to me in those boxes, but home audio audiophiles will always tell you that even JL's purist boxes are horrible, with a qtc of .8 or even higher.
after modeling your woofer, if you are at .7x of a qtc, then you are WAY WAY fine for box volume. if your much higher or lower, you might consider redesigning your box.
also you have to consider that many woofers sound good with really really ODD alignments. take an eclipse woofer, install it with a qtc of 1, it sounds like GARBAGE. 12w0, qtc of 1, sounds terrible. install at .7, its beautiful! install an eclipse or jl with a qtc of 1.33, it sounds bad?? actually, they both sounded good! why? ill be damned if i know, but that doesnt change the fact that it sounded very nice for a daily driver, and even still had some low frequency extension (the eclipse anyways)
my experience of course wont be the same as everyones, but for me, .7 or 1.3 always = good, 1 always = bad. i dunno.
now to answer your question, i dunno! give me the t/s parameters, ill model it up. or download winISD or any other box program (www.linearteam.org) and model it up for yourself! its fun and is neat to design something then build it then see how close to home you really hit!

How do you find the alignment for a box?
Especially an odd shaped box that you can't plug into software...Is there some kind of formula, or do you have to measure it with some sort of meter?
