my amp starting smoking....oh my god

damn today i was driving for just about 30 mins...then suddenly i smelled something...i thought it was my A/C at first then it got stronger and stronger...but i didn't care...then suddenly my amp stop bumping the bass...so i thought to myself aww damn my wire got lose again...so when i got home i immediately open my back sides and bam...my amp still had smoke coming out from the side vents...i was like oh shiet...so thats my story and now i don't know what to do...

oh yea i had problems with my amp for like weeks now and i thought it was just a temporary thing...because when i don't use it for a couple days it would be back to normal but now its a permanent thing...this sucks...i only had the amp for like 10 months...and its a fosgate 500.2 punch amp too...its suppose to be good and should last long since i paid so much money for it...

so any suggestions on what i should do now...buy a new amp? send it to the manaufacturers and have them fix it since its under warranty...or what??

Do you have an inline fuse? Is it a 10A? That's the life of your amp. I'd send it back and say that you used a 10A fuse inline but it still smoked your amp but not the fuse. Lie your **** off.

inline fuse?? what's that? i know i have a 60A fuse where the battery connects to the amp, and the amp doesn't have a fuse on it...not that i can see maybe its inside but i'm not sure...its a fosgate 500.2 punch amp...man i don't even know what to do now...and i have no money to buy a new one either...

yup that would be the inline fuse... also the amp should have had a fuse on it too... maybe the inline fuse's rating was too high? but ya i would just try calling fosgate to get it covered under warranty, i doubt they would tho.

i've always been told, do it right the first time. your just going to be wasting money on cheap stuff, when you could have gotten the right stuff the first time... when it comes to car audio it always seems to be true...
go with PPI and i'm sure it'll last for years.
but ya i think its just because its not a very good amp such as PPI. look you already had a sony and now a fosgate that fried, dont you wish you would have just invested in some PPIs? my friend used to buy decent brands but they always fried after a year, he then got PPIs and has been running it for 3 years now... only thing is he spent 600 just on the amp for the subs.

I love my Xtant amp

But i dont think calling RF amps cheap and bad quality is right...its not like its a road gear or jensen...i dont like the brand either, but cheap they are not.

I've had rockford fosgate amps that have lasted me over 4 years. There amps are usually very well built, i've never had a problem. I got rid of mine just because they aren't as good for sound quality as other brands. 60amps is the correct fuse inline for the 500.2 . There is probably something installed improperly that you haven't mentioned yet. or maybe you just have bad luck with amps??

sorry i didn't mean to say that fosgate arent good amps. i think they are pretty good, they just arent the top of the line. but ya i think you should just call them up and see if they will cover it under warranty.

where did you get it at? maybe they'll even exchange it. i know stereo 1 has a warranty, but they do crappy installs i heard... here's a ppi amp, 1 channel, 250 rms at 4 ohm, 500 at 2 ohm.

damn one problem leads to another...now my 4 channel amp is messed up too...i don't know if its the amp but when i turn on my car, the amp doesn't turn on until like 3 minutes later...i can live without my subs bumping in the back but without music thats a no for sure, but i know this is not a big problem since it turns on after 3 minutes later...i have a MA audio capacitor running the power also...what do you think is the problem? is it the power cap that is messed up or what? thanks again...

ok here's the big question .. who wired your setup and what is it. those amps are only rated for 4 ohms mono. any lower and they WILL heat up and ussally shut off but in your case internally combust.... so what subs do you have and you have any clue what ohm rating they r and how they are wired. and whats the gain set on the amp and do you have one of those stupid remote bass **** that basically beg for newbies to blow there stuff??? installers know your gonna listen to your car at the shop for like 5 minutes here thats its hittin hard and then leave cause you r thrilled but the amp can't take this for long. giv eus some info on that side of the story and check all your connections and make sure you have the proper size wire/ pos. and neg and your cap is hooked up tight and check its voltage
