Kick Panels for the 7th gen civic on the way!
Ok.. I was looking at the Q-Logic website to see if they made kick panels for my car (2k2 coupe LX) and was quite depressed when I found they didn't. I sent an E-Mail to Q-Logic and they told me our Kick Panels will be ready in about 60 days!! WooHoo!!

Big deal...kick panels are over rated. and they look like crap, get kicked around..yeah. but hey whatever you like is what you like
IMO its just a waste of money...our systems sound fine by just upgrading the speakers and hookin em up to an amp....
But im an SQ guy, not SPL

Agreed. But my components added to my 6.5's in the rear create just enough rear fill and a superior sound quality. After all...rear fill sucks ***. Thats why i stayed away from 3way 6x9s. Dolby Prologic 5.1 Surround Sound runs constant through the P9000R...I think it sounds great, especially in rap....I dont get any rear fill until an echo...Like with Nelly, or Big Tymers. It's great.
Gotta love surround sound. =)
PS- Mohawk, any ideas on where i could re-mount my center speaker?

I don't see how you can call yourself a SQ guy and then turn around and say kickpanels are overrated and don't sound any better than the stock locations with upgraded equipment. You obviously have not heard a high quality SQ system, or at least what is considered high quality by competition standards. I suggest you go to some USACI, SLAP, or better yet an IASCA competition and check out the SQ cars. Kickpanel speaker mounting is one of the greatest advances ever made in improving SQ inside of a car. Equalizing pathlengths is the first obstacle you should tackle when setting up a system in a car. Kickpanels are a proven solution for this problem. This method is still widely used today in the best of the best sound quality vehicles. One of the SQ World Champions even uses Q-Forms in his vehicle. We are lucky in that Q-Forms generally work exceptionally well in Honda Civics. I would suggest re-enforcing them with fiberglass and dampening mat as they are a little flimsy direct from the factory. A speaker baffle cut out of MDF would also be a good upgrade to them as well.

neoretromax - you can check it out now if you already have your comp set. Just place the tweeter & mid on top of some t-shirts, towels, etc. in the kickpanel areas, wrapping the cloth around the drivers. It won't sound great of course as far as bottom end but you will be able to notice an immediate & major improvement in the soundstage and with the imaging.

take garbage and isntall it good, will ALWAYS sound better than the best of the best in a junk install. guaranteed.
sweet .. so how bad would it be to have a 6.5 in the door and a 6.5 in the pod and just a tweeter in the pod... i mean i'm not going to compete sq so with them being only inches away would the imaging be that bad?
if they are facing the same direction, you wont get as many cancellations....
best bet to run a pair of components is to run them on the same baffle wherever you put them, facing same direction, with the same pathlength to the ear
will your idea sound bad? no. will it have a crappy stage? maybe. maybe not. it might sound amazing!
there is no way to predict how cancellations or imaging will work in that way in your car, much less if you make custom kicks as opposed to using Qforms, etc......
too many factors!

but many many ppl run two sets of components in the front, ive seen a pair in a camaro doorpot, both woofers were angled, my only concern would be the differeing pathlengths to the ear, but i dunno, i never got to hear that car...
Another nice way to run it would run your mid-bass in the doors as teh directionality is negated a bit in lower end, and run mids and highs in the kicks this is one of the best ways to get that full balanced sound upfront. I am looking forward to the q-forms, just worried how it affects the clutch.

Yes, they are worth it. Be sure to re-enforce them with fiberglass and mdf. You will notice a major difference in the imaging and even an increase in the width of the soundstage. In the past, Q-forms have worked extremely well in the Civics. Let's hope Q-Logic keeps their track record going with the 7th gen models.

in 1 day...are you God?..

To properly do it takes at least 3 days. Day 1. Bult the baffle and the base (glassaing the bottoms of the kicks) Then aligning your baffles for best possible imaging and staging. Then trim your kick panel bases as needed. Then cover the baffles and glass them to the kick panel bases. If you'll be running speakers handling midbass as well you might want to open up the rears of the bases buy cutting a 4" round whole or so as most midbass drivers are meant to run free-air or use small sealed (.2-.4 cu.ft) eclosures..most kicks only occupy .1 cubes or so,,,this is why Q-logics are open backed and can vent through the cars carpetting..

my passenger kick took me one day of construction, and now that i have the process hammered out, i can *build* kicks in 2 days. but imaging? i know some who have been workign at it for 6 weeks now and still havent gotten it! a little cocky to say you can have finished kicks that have proper imaging in only 3 days time.......
