Matching Amp to Cerwin-Vega HED10 Sub?
Matching Amp to Cerwin-Vega HED10 Sub?
After reading favorable reviews on Mohawk's recommendation for the Cerwin-Vega HED series of subs, I'm contemplating a single 10" just to add some richness to my music (not for head thumping). I also decided against the Infinity Basslink just because everybody seems to be telling me that you can get better by assembling it yourself. I figure 10" would be good enough, as size and cost are major considerations for me. I can get this for $99 CAD.
So anyway, I need to match an amp to this sub, who's specs are:
Cerwin-Vega HED-10SVC
4 ohms
power range 35-150 watts RMS
peak power 300 watts
sensitivity 88 dB
Any recommendations? Probably just want to stick to a 2/1 or mono amp just to drive the sub.

MTX amps are ok...
the old MTX black gold subs had good sq
whats your budget on the amp?
If its dvc, with each DVC at 4ohms...
You can get one amp but youd have to wire the voicecoils in series to have an 8ohm load since not all amps can do 2ohm bridged mono...you can get another sub and have 2ohms stereo load or a 4 ohm mono load...
4 Ohm DVCs are pretty hard to incorporate into a design if you just want one sub.

Are you currently using an amp on your mids & highs?
Here are some suggestions for an amp:
If you dont have an amp for your mids & highs:
USX4065 4 X 65 : use channels 1 & 2 for your front speakers. 3 & 4 bridged for your sub...run your rears off of the HU. $125 at thezeb.com
usacoustics is a cheap but very reliable & clean amp brand. They have the sub for $69.99
If you are going to use a DVC sub or SVC,
Soundstream Angina - 200x1 @ 2 ohm (watts RMS) at thezeb.com

yup..thats the simplest set-up you can have...less hassle on the install...good sound.
Just dont expect to win any SPL battles
IMO, A balanced system is better than an all bass system...

No I don't have an amp for my full-range speakers.
I was wondering, if I do go for a mono/2-channel amp just to power the sub. Will the sub overpower my regular speakers? The RMS (4ohm) is 150W on the sub, so if I go for a amp that puts out a RMS of 150W, would that be an ok setup?
If I do go for the 4-channel to also power the front door speakers, how do those wire up to the amp? I assume that there are connections from the headunit to amp (in trunk) and then connections from the amp (in trunk) back out to the front door speakers?

It's sitting in the under teh stock rear floor right next to the spare tire. I just went out and measured the space i had and made the biggest box i could, it came out just like .05 ft^3 below the recommended. It's an MDF box, i'm thinking about trying to glass it and/or maybe make a ported box. I haven't really had too much especience with any other sub,so i can't really answer that.. but I think it's good, for it's size and about 150 watts rms.

sorry, it's takign me a while, hopefully i can get them tomorrow, if nothign comes up.
while i'm posting, i have a question about some Cerwin Vega HEDs:
THey say that they are recommended for a sealed box, will they sound any better in a vented enclosure? I tried looking for the specifications to type into winisd, but i can't seem to find the specifications of that sub. thanks for any help,
