Infinity Basslink or Custom Sub?

Would you go for the Infinity Basslink (at approximately $250 USD on eBay, instead of the $399 MSRP) or a custom 10" or 12" sub (sub + box + amp)? What would the custom 10" or 12" cost me, approximately the same I'm guessing?

Now what if you can get the Basslink for approximately $250 on eBay. It is very common to see them going for around that price.

And, have you had experience with the Basslink?

The Basslink sounds great..but doesn't have very much output. Couple that with being ina trunk you may find yourself very dissapointed.

If you're trying to save space, you can fit a small 8" JL sub in a box under the rear floor, right next to the spare tire. I think it's better, and much more upgradable than a basslink. you can mount the amp somewhere discrete too, maybe in or on the rear seats. I think i got my whole setup for about $250, a JL 8w3 and Ample Audio 4 channel amp (still have an extra 2 channels). I've never heard a Basslink, but I really do t hink that a small sub in a box with an amp can out do it.

listen to mo.

an 8 wont have much output either.

BUT! what you CAN do is cut out a piece of MDF to fit exactly the space your floor occupies already (itll take a small bit of work to fit flush) and you cna get JL IB subs. that would be a great way to save all the space you need, and still get a decent response.

another option is to run elemental audio E12A's. they worked well freeair, and those or JL's either in your spare tire well or in a baffle constructed on your cabin/trunk boundary would save lots of money on a box, save space, and both are inexpensive woofers.

elementals are on preorder right now for like half retail, i think $125 or even less.

when these were tested, the tester was VERY impresssed with the quality of this woofer, especially freeair, even tho the box was litterally sealed with towels thrown in the cracks. he expected even better sound from a non-ghetto rigged IB box.

the bottom line is, for something that sounds good and gets reasonably loud, its hard not to spend less than $350 for everything.

but I guarantee you $350 online (earthquake amps, scala wire kit, homemade box, $100-150 woofer) would DESTROY any basslink install.

for $390 i was gonna install in an s-10 a system capable of 145 dB in a box with reasonable SQ as well. then i found out it was a standard cab >.<

but still, if you know where to put the money, you will get the response, output, and space taken up you want.
