JL Audio Amps

I want the 500/1 JL Amp for my 2 JL 12W3 subs, Mohawk or anyone that knows what they are talking about what do u think?

Are JL amps good in general? Quality? Performance? DO u know any better amps for the same price?

JL amps are pretty solid, look cool, good quality, a little pricey for what you get. For the same or less money you can get an MTX 6500D that puts out around 850 watts for $309 shipped at onlinecarstereo.com . A few members here in this forum have that amp so I would ask them.

the JL amp is very versatile as far as ohm loads go..has a heavily regulated power supply and will put out exactly 500Wrms and leave a big hole in your wallet....Might want to look at something that's more efficient, puts out oure mpower and matches your budget..

it's a matter of preferance..most amps sound the same....the JL amps are good sounding amps..with heavily regulated power sipplies..they put out what they say..and are very accomodating to different ohm loads..

for this it's a matter of preference to you and how much you want to spend.. MTX, and US Amps are great amps at a low cost and put ut more power than they are rated for..

i dont knkow if i would look to push more than 250(recommended by JL)- 300W(max, i suggest), through a 12 W3. You could check out JLaudio.com's Recommended RMS power chart , its kinda small but it will give you a good idea of what they recommend, 250 is right at the "sweet spot" for these subs. Its up to you though.

JL 12w3's can handle 250Wrms using sine waves.. music wise it's plenty safe t run 300wrms through them... 500wrms is pushing it and definatly not reccomended..

I would inqure what kind of component's you would use with the 300/4 first hand. I have great experience with all of the JL stuff. The 500/1 amp is great for the application on 2 of their 12W3's. It has a really clean sound all throughout. If you do go with the JL stuff it will greatly accomadate the 2 JL 12W3's visually. The only problem I have run into is that they love to drink energy right out of our cars. Just watch out for your alternator and battery supplies.
