one sub--ignore my first post
I like the custom trunk setup here
But I do not want 2 subs because my wife still wants the spare to be easy for her to get at. I like to listen to rap, jazz, and rnb. I would like to know what type of sub I should be looking for? I was thinking of going with a 10" Clarion since I have a Clarion H.U. I do not need to be heard 2 blocks away. I want to be able to hear the song and not have the bass sort of take over do you know what I mean? Oh and I can't spend a whole lot of money I have little people to feed
Oh and as far as the amp I was thinking a Clarion
Clarion APX201.2 2/1 Channel Power Amplifier
Clarion APX200.2 2/1 Channel Power Amplifier
thanks for your time and help.

Hey NJ!
Sounds like you have done your homework. The clarion setup you described is good, you should get a descent sound out of it. I think the pics you had of the custom trunk are a great idea - but building it might be a bit tricky. If you still plan on using your trunk, I would HIGHLY recommend that you get grilles for your woofer(s) to protect them. If you are planning on going for this setup, I think you'll be limited to either one 12" or two 10" due to size constraints. The two 10"s will be more efficient overall, but the 12" will probably be able to hit lower notes if you make the enclosure the same size.

yeah what he said, given that you have an aftermarket hu, you should ba able to tune it pretty much how u want it. i have the stocker in and baisicly have to adjust it at the amp itself, cant do much at the hu, so i gotta pick somethin and stick with it, i have to find an "average" i guess u could say. but, yeah u want a 12, as far as the kind of music u listen to goes, but if you really want to scimp on space, you could go with a custom enclosure on the side of the trunk, behind the wheelwell.

Well you can still pull off a pair of 12's sealed no problem.. Just make a false floor using 1/2" high grade plywood (inexpensive) and replace the OEM 1/4" Fiber board. and make a hinged door for the spare.. It's what I'm working on now.

or, you could replace the OEM cardboard floor panel in the trunk with some like 1/2" plywood and make a box in the space where the jack is for a single 10" or maybe even 2 10" subs. that way, you wouldnt take away room for your spare tire, and you'd still have enough room for a decent sized box i think.

Slick..that involves reloacting the jack, and cutting out the the metal prong that holds the jack . Otherwise the spare would have to be removed.
