DRL and battery light flashing intermittently

I have a Honda civic 2001 DX (non ABS). It has happened 2 times so far while driving that DRL and battery light start flickering. The problem goes away after a minute or two. There is no loss of power or miss firing. Once I was driving on the highway when the flickering happened and the car kept on going. So far I have tested battery, alternator, starter and everything came out fine. The belt of alternator seems to be under correct tension. Scanned for codes but found none. Some forums says it could be bad ELD but then the code for bad ELD is P1298 and as I mentioned above no codes were found. Anybody has any other idea why the dash battery and DRL lights flicker intermittently?

Re: DRL and battery light flashing intermittently

I did not check them. Even though the belt seemed tight I will check them but ieems like a weekend job as it is in a very tight space. Do you think I need to check the pully bolts as well. If then the I might have to lift the car up. How do you check the mounting bolts. Thanks for the advice

No.

How do you check the mounting bolts.
Put wrench or socket on them and see if they are tight.
14mm for the big bolt on top,
12mm for the small bolt on the bottom of the alt,
and another 14mm where the bottom bracket attaches to the side of the engine.
Torque to specs.

IDK what the actual cause of your complaint is, but it's well known that loose alternator mounting bolts can fry the PCM and it gets really expensive. It's a somewhat common mistake during any service that involves the alternator, including a timing belt job.

Re: DRL and battery light flashing intermittently

Thanks ezone for your help. I will check it over the weekend. The same issue happened again in my driveway and when I got out of the car, I could hear belt squeaking which is making me agree more with you suggestion about bolts getting lose. Will post the results once I check the bolt
