On ebay and other sites on the net, you can easily pick one up for about $500-750 (depending on the size. And yah, those w7's whoop alot of . I heard 3 of them in range rover that was pushing over 2000 watts at a local HiFi Buys store, and it shook the whole dang place!!

They are kick...But way overpriced.. the Adire Audio Brahma, and Image Dynamics IDMAX are both in the same class and much cheaper.. the IDMAX so far is the highest rated most acclaimed sub as of yet for all around sound quality and SPL will retaining musicality..

Cheers

i just plan on buying just one, and I'll be happy with one JL audio W7 sub. even if it costs $450 for a ten inch.

Don't pay any attention to other opinions or magazine articles. Go listen to the sub, if you like it and can afford the price then go for it. It's your ears and your system.

Screw JL Audio... tehy stinka dn brake easily and that comapny dosent stand behind there warrantys..
if u want teh best subs and dun mind spending hte money
go wit MMATS 15" Juggernaust (http://www.mmatsproaudio.com/)
there really pricey.. but MMATS SUBS and MMATS amp is the best u cna get
each sub can handle a max of over 3000 watts a piece.. tahts 6000 wats if u want.. u cna win at any comepteion or jstu shake the car next to u in teh parking lot...
i have 12's and i rock cars next to me better than there own subs rock there cars... imagine the 15's
that and these subs never break n have liek alife -time warrarny, and tehy stand by them
even there base and middle models blow away the jl audios
my friends has one 12" MMATS base modle sub and it blows away my friends 15" JL W7 subs.. see wat i mean

Yeah, loud and sounds like , I've installed quite a few of them and for 750 you can do better. No the is no 15, it is a 13w7, which is "the same as" a 15.

the only reason u buy mmats is if u want to blow your brains out with high spl.. mmats are for spl and thats it. they sound like crap. i know this bc i know someone with a 12" jug. sure its loud but no quality. my other friend as 2 12" mmats pros. loud but also sounds like crap. now u go to jl audio. they may be only 3/4's as loud but the sound quality is great. if i where going for spl i would definitly use mmats. but for a daily driver u want sq.

Well, just to give another opinion here...I did some serious critical listening to a couple of systems at the USACI finals with the W7 subs and they sounded absolutely incredible. Beautiful, detailed bass that was incredibly deep and yes, could get very loud but stayed extremely clean. Install is the key! Sure they are overpriced, but they are excellent subs. Install is the key!

If you are wanting something along the same caliber as the W7's but for a little less money, consider the Oz Power Matrix, the IDMax, and the MB Quart PWD-304's. All are wonderful subs when installed properly. You can't lose with any of them.

with the MMATS commentary.. MMATS amps are greatly efficient powerhouses that are not the most relible..more people blow MMATS amps at competitions..their subs are solid SPL performmers..the MMATS procast subs sound pretty good..they suspensions are loose enough to be a decent sound quality sub....

Juggs aren't all out SPL subs either..and they aren;t gonna win you every competition.. They lack the efficiency and excusrsion to do it.. SPL wise Digital Designs pretty much dominates the scene...people have had alot of success with RF Power HE2's and Cerwin Vega Strokers...Resonant Engineering has had some small successes as well..MMATS juggs..in big competitions generally don't come in past 5th....Mostly it;s in the setup..but that's also limited by the eqipment you have...

Education prevails over ignorance always ..
Don't make grossly bold statements unless you can legitimately back them up.

Cheers

so I'm curious... just what exactly defines a sub as not having SQ or having very poor SQ? Just trying to learn something
new today!

Well most subs have good even suspension and a rigid cone... Some subs have very unevene suspension through the cones travel and cause anomolies which adds distortion..Some subs cones are so weak that they flex..this addes distortion as well.. Some susb suspensions are too loose or their motor structures are not powerful enough to support proper cone operation resulting very loose sloppy bass...some subs suspensions are so stiff that they have very poor low end extensiona nd veryuneven frequency response...

But foremost the actual enclosure is the most important part

Or if you want it in English without all the flashy techno jargon....you want a SQ subwoofer to provide tonal balance over the entire frequency range it is designed to cover...you want good low frequency extension (deep bass)...you want a clear precise sound at high volume but you also want the same clarity at low volume as well where all the dynamics of the music are still presented accurately...you want good impact, impact meaning the quickness & accuracy of the notes and a good decay time or the time it takes for the sound to die away, you want this to be rather quick as well or you will end up with boomy bass.

Of course all this is relative to what you like to hear in your bass and also what type of music you listen too. The qualities above probably wouldn't satisfy someone who listens primarily to rap or real heavy metal so you have to consider your musical preferences.
