My Honda Civic 01 is always drained of its battery power
My Honda Civic 01 is always drained of its battery power
I have a 01 honda civic that had no electrical problems before i
1. added an after market sound system
2. added a viper alarm system to my car due to bad area i lived in.
Now every time i go to use my car in the morning its dead.
It will not have any battery life.
Once i jump it i can use my car and drive around all day but i will die again at night once i stop using it.
I have no idea what it is that is draining my battery.
Th audio guy said the radio is installed properly and so does the alarm guy.
Do i need a bigger battery to support all this extra power or is something installed incorrectly?
Any advice or help would be appreciated.
thanks

those things should draw very minimal power, enough not to drain the battery for weeks of sitting. the alarm is prolly okay, but my bet is something with the radio. either its drawing too much power when off (defective) or you have an amp that is staying on. this could also affect the mcu not going into sleep mode, which makes the battery drain even more. pull the radio fuse and report back. if you dont figure out soon, the battery will be beyond repair as well. stick it on a charger at night (battery tender plus) until you figure out whats wrong.

The first thing I would look at is the battery. It sounds like it holds a charge only for a short time. Have it load tested at an auto parts store.

How old is your battery? It might have already been on it's way out when all of this was installed. The trap you don't want to fall into here is replacing the battery and assuming it fixes everything. Do you have or can you borrow a multimeter? If your drawing more than 25-50 milliamps you probably have some parasitic loss, pull fuses and keep an eye on your meter and you can probably isolate it.
