question about ohlm load
ok, I just came across a rf 160a amp. it says that it does 40x2 at 4ohm, or 80x 2 at 2ohm, I wanted to know if I couald hook this amp up to my infinity components (4ohm) and still get 80w. So basically I'm asking if it is possible to wire the components up so that they are only presenting a 2ohm load. Thanx

more to add about this; most "regular" car speakers carry an 8ohm load, paired they equl 4ohm,... thats why your amp will only push a 4ohm load on those speakers.
What i meant by "regular",... The only speakers I've een that aren't 8ohm are subwoofers

um NO Phat boy.... sorry what in the world are you talking about and why are you posting as if u do know. 8ohms is for home use buddy, Car speakers are always 4 ohms or less and thats the individual rating not paired. and to get the 2 ohm rating you could run 2 sets of mids and highs off each side of that amp but otherwise you can't change a speaker. If your running rears you can run the lefts off one and the rights off the other. But you will get swamped by the rears cause you can't adjust the fade between the 2. But 40 watts off a real amp is still really good compared to off the deck so don't get discouraged!!!
to be honest, ive only seen subs that are 8 ohms....ive never seen an 8 ohm component mobile audio speaker........or coaxial for that matter......
JL makes 8 ohm subs (or did) diamond makes 8 ohm subs......
and adire, my home company makes 8 ohm DVC subs.
but components? nope......
there are many ways to get 80 wats out of that amp, slick. but teh bottom line is that no matter what you do, your infinity's (both mid and tweet) will only see 40 of those watts.
