Smoke Headlight Opinion/Help
Smoke Headlight Opinion/Help
Hey guys, so I am in the process of blacking out my entire civic. I have a 2004 sedan. So I have been looking for smoked headlights and the only place I can seem to find them is on ebay. What one do you think the best option would be? And do you guys know of any other site then ebay that I could purchase this product at? These are the two that I am debating between, I live in Canada.

I am also looking for options to tint my tail lights. I know of the nite shade spray option, but I was wondering if any company made tail light covers or completely black tail lights, I haven't been able to find any online.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Re: Smoke Headlight Opinion/Help
blacking out your headlights and smoke headlights are two different things.
blacking out headlights is when the interior pieces of the headlight is black (or some dark color)
smoke headlights (like those two links you have) are regular chrome inside, but the actual lens is smoked out.
smoke headlights are a bad idea because they hinder the light output (meaning they reduce the light that is on the road from your headlight)

Re: Smoke Headlight Opinion/Help
also, if u REALLY have to have smoked headlights/tail lights, i would suggest just buying a smoke film and apply it on the headlight or tail light... that way, you can always take it off in the future and 99% of the time, they look better than the ones u spray on yourself.
Re: Smoke Headlight Opinion/Help
Okay I have seen the film, would it not come off when I wash my car? And I mostly drive where it is already lit so I'm not too worried about the light output. Has anyone on the forum tried the film on the tailights?
And also do you guys know of a better place the eBay to buy this product?

Re: Smoke Headlight Opinion/Help
if get 55w hids in a very small reflector (civics have very lard reflectors) then they MIGHT melt.
most HIDs are only 35w and arent any hotter than the stock halogen bulb... actually they run much cooler (halogens are normally 55w)
local shops arent always educated about these HID stuff...you're better off asking forums (like this one) that have people who know just about everything about HIDs (like myself or gearbox).
if u have any further questions feel free to ask on here (but please search first)

Re: Smoke Headlight Opinion/Help
+1 if you get 35w hids, they emit less infrared (heat) radiation compared to halogens. headlightarmor.com has 3 types of tint film and i would recommend the light smoke for best night visibility. the films are thick vinyl and should last 5-10 yrs.
Re: Smoke Headlight Opinion/Help
35w HID definitely run cooler than stock halogen bulbs, for smoking/blacking out your headlights what i would recommend is going to an auto body paint shop or somewhere that knows what they are doing with paint. Then having them mix a clear coat with drops of what ever color you were looking for, whether to color match to your car or black and spray on your lights. This is the most effective way to fully black out your lights while having the least amount of reduction of light output.

And HIDs have a lower draw I beleive. Think they only initially pull a large draw. Mine been fine for about a year now. Buy QUALITY HIDS dont go ebay. My friend did and his didnt make it past a few months.

Re: Smoke Headlight Opinion/Help
when HIDs are first ignited, they draw a substantial amount of power. much more than halogens (thats why you need a wiring harness)
the formula is amps = watt/volt
as for HIDs, you want a well known HID brand.
i personally vouch and use DDM tuning. why? because they have a LIFETIME warranty. so basically they are a "forever working ballast"
i have about 6 sets and not one has failed on me. had em for about 5 years now.
Re: Smoke Headlight Opinion/Help
i have bought the film off ebay for my ex's accord. it looks pretty good, but a few creases i couldn't get out drive me crazy. i would recommend buying the spray stuff, i always heard that looks really good. i put the same film on my tails but i didn't like it and took it off. also, my avatar shows my black housing headlights, which personally i like better than the film or spray. a guy at my school has the spray on his heads and tails and he says mine look better
lol
lol Re: Smoke Headlight Opinion/Help
laminex makes tail light films and some other places too if you search hard enough also i know a kid that used plastidip on the outside of his tails how long term that is im not sure and it probably wont match the rest of the care come to think of it i forgot he plastidipped his entire car so it matches
