speaker and subs help
speaker and subs help
I have a 2005 Honda Ex Special Edition with a 6 Disc CD changer. I was wondering if I could just buy 2 10" subwoofers with an amp and just wire them to the stereo. And if anyone knows..what are the dimensions of the stock speakers?

6.5 in the doors, 6x9 in the rear deck,
Yes you can if you tap off the rear speaker wires and run it to an amp that has a LPF setting so the subs will not play the mids and highs.

Yes. I have the 05 special edition that came with the same radio but I dont remember if it has the aux input on the back.. (white and red RCA).
Assuming it doesnt, You will need whats called a Line Out Converter (LOC). Crutchfield and other mobile electronics sites will carry them, dont get the cheapest one though. You get what you pay for. Ive read good reviews about the PAC brand of LOC's.
WHAT A LINE OUT CONVERTER DOES
Essentially it takes the audio signal from speaker (which you tap into) and it puts it out to a nice aux input or white and red RCA. From this you can run your RCA's to you amp... Your amp to your battery. Your amp grounded no more than 12" away. Speaker wire from your amp going to your subs.
Ive used this method on a few cars installing myself, and my opinion is that yes it will work, but the quality isnt 100%. Once the customers upgrade to a headunit the difference is immediate. You can control every setting of your setup through it with specifics your stock unit cannot.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
