Trying to set up an iPhone plug-in for Honda Civic LX 2002
Trying to set up an iPhone plug-in for Honda Civic LX 2002
Hi everyone:
I should confess that I got fed up with listening to the same music on FM stations as much as I got tired of playing old CD's over and over again in my Honda Civic LX 2002 coup (2-door model). I read somewhere that it may be possible to set up a connector wire to hook up my iPhone to play through the car's stereo. The problem is that I can't seem to find a way to pull the stereo out (well, without ripping open the front panel). Take a look, I made a picture of how it looks:

The stereo itself:

and

I should also say that I am not the original owner of this Civic -- I got it with the aftermarket stereo installed (that unfortunately does not have a round 3.55 mm plug-in for the iPhone in the front). What I was hoping to do is to take that stereo out and study if I may be able to plug into it from the back
and in that case be able to wire out an extension for an easy connection to an iPhone.
Any ideas how to do it?

Re: Trying to set up an iPhone plug-in for Honda Civic LX 2002
You might be able to find an adapter online that will plug into the back where a cd changer would go. That's how my Alpine works but it is only 3 years old. If they don't make an adapter then your going to have to search for a schematic of the wiring to find out if you can tap into anything.
Re: Trying to set up an iPhone plug-in for Honda Civic LX 2002
i saw an universal adapter today at advanced auto parts for 13 dollars but your going to have to remove the front panel regardless. time to utilise that search button.
Re: Trying to set up an iPhone plug-in for Honda Civic LX 2002
I did some search like you said, but I don't even know what radio I have
I searched for "Pioneer EEQ Mosfet 50wx4" but someone said that I need more info on it...
Anyway, I found this YouTube video on removing the stereo and I'm not really sure that it's gonna happen as easy as this guy shows:

Yea it's as easy as it looked in the video. It's an easy stereo to to take out. If you don't have much experience with electronics you should still be able to take the head unit out. If your going to take it out you should just replace the head unit with a new one. You can buy a new head unit from Crutchfield with iPhone interface for less then 200 bucks and it will come with instalation instructions and everything you need.
Re: Trying to set up an iPhone plug-in for Honda Civic LX 2002
Here's what I came up with so far. I'm posting it here in case someone else hits it up via a search engine (for sure I'd appreciate to find it like that).
First off, I'm attaching two manuals: Operation Manual and Installation Manual for "Pioneer DEH-P430 Premier Super Tuner III" that is a "Pioneer EEQ Mosfet 50wx4" brand. What I witnessed is that many sites refer to this manual as a link to the Pioneer site but most of those links were broken... hate when the host site rearranges itself and makes all old links obselete...
I also ordered the IP-BUS Cable, or "Pioneer Auxiliary Input Adaptor (AUX Input)" from here for $13 (the picture is here):
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...oneer-Aux.html
and then ordered this "6ft 3.5mm Stereo Male to RCA Male Y-Cable" from Amazon for $3+ w/shipping to act as a converter from the RCA to a 3.5 mm iPhone headphone jack (picture is here):
http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-0318...850880&sr=8-15
So if it's true according to the operation manual (page 43) one can use an AUX input in that radio to play the outside input. So if I didn't mess anything up I'll be able to find a solution for this little money
I haven't opened the stereo itself, I'm waiting for those two converters to arrive in the mail....PS. Oh boy, this site is slow to load....

Re: Trying to set up an iPhone plug-in for Honda Civic LX 2002
why didn't you just get this your going to lose alot of sound quality with that setup.
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...y-Adapter.html then you could have gotten this to charge it while your listening which really comes in handy . also you can run the wires behind the head unit into the glove box.

Re: Trying to set up an iPhone plug-in for Honda Civic LX 2002
I just installed this in my 2001, its sounds great even with the stock speakers (will be upgrading soon). and the Bluetooth works clean. Plus its on sale and you get the install kit with it and free shipping. DSX S300BTX
Re: Trying to set up an iPhone plug-in for Honda Civic LX 2002
Thanks. The description for that DSX S300BTX says "iPod". Do you use it for your iPhone 4 as well?
Re: Trying to set up an iPhone plug-in for Honda Civic LX 2002
I own an ipod. I did have my friends iphone and it worked just like my ipod. you still connect bluetooth for the iphone for calls and the cable for the ipod control. you can click on the hands on research tab on crutchfield and it lists all the iphones as compatible. now depending on you carrier coverage and where your stereo is installed i have read reviews that antenna signal can drop in some areas. in los angeles we did not have issues.

I guess, your "go use search engine" post wasn't that helpful after all...
