No radio signal / reception .... please help

Hi guys,
I am having problems with my radio signal / reception. When I bought the car, I had the OEM radio and I didnt get any signal / reception. I was thinking that there was something wrong with the OEM radio, but I bought an Alpine headunit, I installed it and made sure that the antenna cable was correctly connected to the back of the alpine headunit. However, I still have no signal / reception. FYI cds, ipods and everything else works great... I just dont get any radio sigal / reception.

Do you guys have any ideas how to fix this problem or what to do?
Any input will be appreciated

Re: No radio signal / reception .... please help

The antenna is right above the rear window heater. See if its not damaged. Its the lines on the rear windows it self that looks different from the lower half. They have too connect some where to wires but don't really know where.

Edit: Iam not sure if the antenna is in side the glass with no way of damaging it or if you could fell them like the defrost ones from the inside. Either way it will be hard to figure out if you have all connections flush all the way in.

Re: No radio signal / reception .... please help

Thanks for the input, I will check for that first thing tomorrow morning. Also I will check to see if there is a fuse for the radio antenna.

More ideas are welcome

Re: No radio signal / reception .... please help

See if the antenna wire came unhooked behind the radio.

1. Look below the center A/C-radio panel for 2 screws and remove 'em.

2. The whole panel just pops out toward you. You will see the antenna plug.

----------

You can check continuity(Ohms) with the multi-meter to see if the lines on the window are actually working.

step 1:

Size: 27.7 KB

2. Unplug the power wire from the little prong attached to the window

3. Set the meter to ohms. Then place 1 probe on the prong and one probe on each line painted on the window in turn to find the bad spot.

----------

Also, check continuity of the wire from the radio to the window.

----------

To fix the line painted on the window:

1. Get some metallic antenna paint.

2. Carefully scrub the area with steel wool. Then clean with alcohol.

3. Carefully tape off above and below the line

4. Paint on a thick coat and let dry for at least 30 minutes.

5. Apply second coat of paint and wait at least 3 hours before removing tape.

6. Test for continuity.

----------
Sorry about the fuzzy pic, crappy phone cam.

There a plastic cover that covers the connections for the antenna and the defroster. I removed the plastic cover and both connections to the wires are good.

I think the antenna is not inside the glass.

I have tinted windows (its 35%, not the really black ones), but I dont think it will interfere with radio reception.

Only metallic tint will interfere with radio reception. Pretty much anywhere has a basic multi-meter for $5-10.

Re: No radio signal / reception .... please help

My understanding is that some cars with the antenna amp in the trunk have several connections and do require power. (if you do not have a roof antenna)
There is a connection at the back of the stereo which you already connected and there should be another one behind the passenger kick panel.
Also make sure that you hooked up the power antenna wire from the stereo to the antenna amp in the wiring harness. You should be able to test power at the antenna amp with a volt meter.

Re: No radio signal / reception .... please help

**UPDATE **
So I finally have the volt meter, and I was ready to do all the test. I am on the back seat so I removed the covers to both sides of the rear window. When I removed the one on the passenger side I saw the wires from the antenna and also I saw a small amp which is the ANTENNA AMP (as TIGGERDX mentioned). The wire was not connected to the ANTENNA AMP so I connected it and the problem was solved.

Thanks to those who replied to my question.

Sounds like you laid the power cables for the amp over your antenna cable. Route those power cables to the other side of the car.

I dont remember exactly, but just pull it towards you and the clips will pop out. Just do it slowly and be careful because you could break the clips. Also, If this is helpful just move it around and lift the cover a little so that you could get an idea where they clips are and then it will be easier to remove.

The antenna AMP is on the driver side so you just need to remove that one.

Hope this helps
