Sub and amp install radio static.
So I finished installing both my amp and sub, pulled everything apart and put it back together, they are in the trunk.
The problem I am having is that certain radio stations are very static-y.
I did not have this problem before the install but now its there.
Something strange is that some stations are static free.
the only think i changed from the stereo harness was I rewired the blue connection, it was required for the remote start up (to tell the amp to turn on)
thats the only thing i could think could be causing this problem...
anyone know what i should do?

Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
If it is a coupe you may have disconnected the antenna amp. The amp is located under the passanger side rear window and is wired back to the head unit, I don't remember the color of the wire. The static may be due to the weaker signal on some stations without the amp.
Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
At the back of the head unit, your antenna plugs into either the head unit directly, or into the antenna plug coming from the head unit. They tend to get pulled loose when the head unit is removed.
Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
well it isnt that. it was a bit out, but i plugged it all the way in (like a centimeter) and still was the same, what else could i check for?
Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
i read in a different thread that there is three connection points, back of hu, kick pannel for passanger, and the rear back window of the passanger. where are these exactly? i know the hu one but the other two?
Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
Gr... I fixed it a bit by tightened the antenna amp that is in the rear of the car, it was a bit loose. there is still a problem though because there is still static.
Im thinking there is another connection i need to re tighten, maybe the one i cant fined that is supposed to be under the passenger kick panel?

Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
Not sure what else to recommend. My antenna is on the roof over the driver door. Straight shot to the HU. Don't have an antenna amp.
Make sure the HU is still well grounded.

Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
well im using a harness, it all worked fine before i installed the amp and sub.
i spoke to tech support at crutchfield and they told me try wiring the amp to the power wire(red), i wouldnt like to do that because then my battery would always be drained no mater what.
I even tried resplicing the blue/white wire with the remote turn on for the amp.
didnt help.
the guy said something about my battery not being powerfull enough,,, would that do anything? (i had the battery checked maybe 2 months ago and it was fine.

Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
How did you wire the system? meaning where did you run the power and signal for the amp?
Did you ever pull the passenger kick panel to see if you could find the third antenna connection?

Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
the power for the amp dirrectly from the battery, not from the post itself but from the power wire leading off the post.
the signal for the amp,, im guessing is the blue wire that came with the kit i wired to the blue wire from the wiring harness, in this connection i used a butt connector, so it likes like this >□- the two wires from one side is the blue/white wire from the head unit itself and the solid blue wire from the amp, the other side is just the blue wire from the harness.
yeah i did pull it but i have no idea what i was looking for so it didnt really help.

Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
Did you splice in the remote wire from the headunit to the cars antenna amp wire? I know the radio reception on my pioneer deck had a lot of static before I hooked up the antenna amp.
Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
Yes the blue white wire is the antenna wire and yes I did splice it to the anntena amp which is the blue wire from the harness. :/ Idk what it could be

There are usually 2 blue wires coming from the headunit (depends on the head unit) One is for a power antenna the other is for the amp turn on.
The blue wire from the kit is most likely for the antenna amp or power antenna. It should not be hooked to the amp turn on lead. You should only have a blue wire (could be blue/white, should be labeled) from the HU hooked to the amp turn on connector.
What I was looking for when I asked about how you wired it was where did you run the wires. Where down the car did you run the power for the amp and where down the car did you run the RCAs?
I would imagine the connection behind the kick panel would look the the connector above, but I could be completely wrong.
Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
the amp turn on lead is wired from the blue wire for the wiring harness, i used the 17ft blue turn on wire that came in the amp wiring kit.
there is only one blue wire coming from my HU, it is blue/white. Originally I wired it to the blue wire from the wiring harness. it was working perfectly fine, all stations no static.
I got my head unit first, then more than two months later I bought an amp and sub woofer.
After I got my amp, I disconnected the blue/white wire, from the HU, from the blue wire in the harness and then proceeded to rewire it back on, but this time with the blue turn on lead from the amp.
- right now I have both the blue/white wire from the HU and the remote turn on wire (blue) from the amp spliced onto the blue wire from the wiring harness.
- this is when the static started to happen.
The box that the amp wiring kit came in says that the blue wire(17ft long) that was included is the turn on.
Both the power wire and the blue turn on wire are wired down the passanger side
rca is wired down the drivers side.
there is no problem noise because i hook up my phone to play music from my head unit and its clear.

Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
since you said that the remote turn on from the amp shouldnt be wired to the power antenna >>>
i rewired the remote turn on from the amp to the red wire(ignition/switch), that makes more sense. thank you.
i also kept the blue antenna wire from my HU spliced onto the blue antenna wire from harness.
OUTCOME: still static.. although i think its a bit better.... maybe my mind playing tricks.
anything else i could do would be appreciated =]

Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
Honestly,
When I changed out my HU, I realized some channels are clearer and some channels picked up more noise.
I guess it's the way the HU picks up these signals and not the antenna itself
After a while, I just got used to it
(Or actually, I've stopped listening to the radio all together)

Re: Sub and amp install radio static.
i just dont like that when i didnt have my amp and sub i could listen to all the radio channels i wanted now that i set it up most of them arnt working. so either sub and amp and less stations or no sub and amp but all stations. =/
