Pioneer Ts-A6961R speakers
Hey, has anyone used the Pioneer Ts-A6961R speakers before? I'm buying a pair for $60 off a guy and wanted to know if anyone had problems with them. All the reviews seem really good, so I think I'll be pleased. The guy apparently only used them for 1 week and is selling them because he sold his car.
The product is discontinued but I think original retail price was around $160.
Here are the speakers:

here's his ad:

speakers still in the box, which is a nice sign

Great, pick em up then
Btw, I would ask to test them out before purchasing, usually they dont mind, but if they do...
Then you know somethings wrong :P
Just bring maybe like 2 ft of speaker wire,
Unplug your speakers from your rear deck (from your trunk, remove the adapter)
plug one end of the speaker wires into the adapter
Then hook up the other end of the speaker wire to the pioneers and turn on your headunit
Turn up the volume a little, play a song for maybe 30 seconds, if it all checks out, then buy em!

Radioshack was bought out in Canada by a company called "The Source." At least where I live. I havn't seen a radioshack in a long time :P
Whats the worst thing that can happen if i get the pos/neg wrong and played for like 5 seconds? :P I hope no exploding speakers lol. Though im sure it'll be a pretty stupid mistake to screw that up lol.

Nah,
If it has built in crossovers, it shouldnt matter, but if it doesnt,
It'll just play really really low, almost as though only the tweeters are playing anything.
having them plugged in wrong for a little bit wont damage anything

Re: Pioneer Ts-A6961R speakers
Alright. I'll probably be heading to The Source today to pick up some 14awg wire for an HID wiring harness, so i'll look for speaker wire as well.
btw, when it comes to installing these things it isn't difficult is it? I haven't really looked at my speakers in great detail but I'd imagine I just drop the old ones out the bottom and put these in their place? Or will i have to install these from the top?
EDIT: nvm found my answer. Take it all apart :P

Re: Pioneer Ts-A6961R speakers
Just looking at that is painful lol.
No i haven't changed the fronts yet. I was just looking online for speakers and found these 6x9's and thought I should grab them lol. I'm not sure when I'll install them now that I know how long it will take. I'm gonna do my retrofit first then deal with this later. :P

Haha, honestly, after 2 times of taking apart the back panel, it'll take a total of about 15 minutes.
First time will prolly last you a good 30~45 minutes trying to figure out how to remove everything without breaking any clips
But once you know where all the clips are, its pretty straight forward

Re: Pioneer Ts-A6961R speakers
it will take you less than half an hour to rip out the back, as long as youre good with tools. and 10 minutes to install the speakers. shouldnt be too big of an issue. if youre planning on putting subwoofers as well this is probably a good time to run the wires for that too (power, RCAs and power wire).

Re: Pioneer Ts-A6961R speakers
I have tool experience from working in construction with my dad, but 1st times always take the longest lol. I also have a pioneer deck from my previous car (cant remember the product code, I was a noob when i bought it) that I still need to install as well and will probably do that before the speakers just to see the difference.
Re: Pioneer Ts-A6961R speakers
deck upgrade would be needed as well, lol. my advice would be to get the 6.5" speakers for the fronts, then take an afternoon and just dive in. replace all the speakers and deck at once.

Re: Pioneer Ts-A6961R speakers
Well who knows when I would get front component speakers :P I found these randomly and wasn't even planning on buying speakers. But when theres a deal on car stuff you gotta pounce, right? haha.
I like the feeling of racking up a list of things I'm gonna do
Makes me feel like I'm gonna enjoy this car so much more.
I just wish I got 10 grand randomly to invest in a nice new k swap and manual swap lol.

Re: Pioneer Ts-A6961R speakers
I've got 292000 Km on my engine lol. I'm afraid of putting anything in this car cuz I don't know how long it will last me :P Though it's driving perfect now with nothing to complain about (except slight over revving at gear changes sometimes, but thats to be expected in an 01 auto :/).

Re: Pioneer Ts-A6961R speakers
Just went by canadian tire for some speaker wire. They only had rolls, so the guy cut off 2 feet for me and gave it to me for free :P Going to pick up the speakers on thursday and will make sure to test them.
