After market speakers in an 01 sedan...
Sorry if this has been stickied but, I just put in a pair of infinity speakers in the front doors of my civic. What did you guys do about protecting the back of your speakers from rain water that gets down in to the door? What kind of material did you use? I've tried plastic wrapping but obviously it vibrates the plastic and you can here it... any suggestions?

you can get foam speaker baffles and then just cut the bottom half out to let the air pressure out or it wont sound good.

ive had infinity for 8 yrs in there and never had them fail from water being all over them. and believe me there was water back there all the time rain or car wash. they can take it so long as your connections are good. thats the only weak point is corroded connections. its best if you can solder the wire directly to the speaker terminals and then seal them with a waterproof non-conducting adhesive like plumbers goop.

Ok i planned on just leaving them exposed, I just dont wanna ruin a pair of $100 speakers, you know. So the speakers themselves can take the water and be just fine?

i used to live in IL for 5 yrs and it rained hard every other day (or snowed/freezing rain in the winter with -15F temps). speakers always sounded great even covered with water.

Alright ill just do that. I thought about wrapping the exposed part of the speaker with a few layers like plastic food wrap. Good idea or not so much?

thing is, that will prolly cause more problem trapping the water in and possibly getting stuck in the speaker. not to mention affecting the sound quality. aftermarket speakers are totally water resistant, all the materials are made so that water is not an issue. now stock paper cone speakers, forget it. they will warp and tear and fail after a while. ive seen plenty of stock speakers that got wet and it wasnt pretty. but aftermarket is made with rubber, butyl, and plastics. nothing that water will affect and there are no electronics that matter other than the speaker terminals.

i'm with gearbox on this. i've never had a problem with the speakers freezing or getting wet. you're putting them in the same spot the crappy OEM ones were, so they'll be fine.

I have marine grade speakers in mine, so doesn't matter :P
But yes on the connection part,
What I suggest, is solder the connection, then either heat shrink tubing, or hot glue to cover it up
