Coax's have 6db/octave crossovers..and allow alow of air between the cone and tweeter so you lose a fair bit of midbass.....
Components generally have MUCH better midbass.. better crossover points (read better upper midragne and female vocal detail). better sound staging. ..
A few other things too..I'm drunk..I'll itterate more tomorrow

many coaxes now have offboard crossovers, but yeah, the vast majority of coaxes have nothing more than a capacitor between teh tweet and teh mid to separate frequencies, nothing to even stop the mid from trying to play 20,000 Hz!
to get a coax to play smooth, you have to carefully engineer the boundary between the midrange and the tweet, any friction at all can be very bad for your sound..... a component set will not have this problem.
mowhawk is right, the true blessing of a component system is the offboard tweet, allowing for much more freedom when building a stage. the complexity far too often destroys the stage more than it helps (e.g. midranges in doors, and tweets in the dash) but properly tuned, the tweet can play a valuable role defining the stage location or even raising the level of the stage.

What..not argiung that I said have 6db/octave crossovers and not saying MOST have..you know making a total generalization
What would you reccomend, i have 50 watts x 2 ready to go for some front speakers, but i can't spend very much on them, i can spend about $150 tops. I won't be able to get very good component, but i should be able to get decent coaxials. I really like nice clear highs and i have a small sub out back to cover the lows. I'm thinking about finding a cheaper 5 1/4 set, but I really don't know the market for $150 Components. thanks for any suggestions!!

I was thinking about these:
Infinity 605cs
or maybe teh 5.25 ones
Infinity 505cs
I just want them to fit easily and sound good.

For $154 + 14.95 S&H, you can get the kappa 60.3cs! I bought these exact same ones from ikesound... great speakers =)
