I just got my Ex coupe and am a little disappointed with the stereo. The sales guy said Alpine makes the stereo for Honda, but I hadn't heard that else where and we all know that some sales guys will say anything if it helps make a deal. Any info on this? I'm currently shopping for aftermarket gear, and I'm just curious about what's already installed.

Alpine does make the CD players, but I would not consider them an Alpine product. They are cheap.

Pioneer makes the speakers, but it is nothing like their aftermarket lineup.

bottom of the line aftermarket stuff is almost always going to be better than stock stuff, unless you have a car that has a nice Bose system or something like that. You would have to go to the higher end aftermarket stuff to beat that stock system.

yes yes agreed. OEM stereo systems.. they suck! i'm an LX owner and mine came with a CASSETTE deck. who the heck uses cassettes these days? so anyways, i got rid of them and replaced them with some ACTUAL ALPINE COMPONENTS.

I bought ALpine CDM7874 and Alpine's rear speakers..

seriously, just replacing the rear speakers and all, plus the new deck and its 200 watts of sweet music..

life was good. is good. all good.

actually, the major drawback on the stock stereos is the stock speakers, the deck isnt that bad with swapped speakers. A friend of mine with an LX installed four fosgate FRC 6.5's and it soudns pretty damn nice for a stock deck, I was totally surprised!! But it's still crappy compared to a good aftermarket deck!

I think the actual deck (well mine) is made by Clarion. they changed it for 2k1.
