HELP!!! lights not working, battery draining...

2003 Civic LX

Did the headunit install as shown on the forums step by step... reconnected everything and all was fine, until I got in my car and noticed that the rear defrost light wasn't lit up like the A/C and the air circulation lights were... so I took the panel back out, unplugged stuff and replugged everything back in... no luck. The battery seemed to be draining and before I knew it the car wouldn't start. Today I realized that my brake lights and side marker lights wont come on when I have my lights turned to the on position. To add insult to injury, none of the lights on my console are working now (my dash lights are though).

Checked the fuses and they all seemed fine, and reinstalled the original CD player to see if that was the problem, but it wasn't.

Oh yeah... my gas meter isn't showing the correct amount of gas either !!!

Anyone got any suggestions on what I can do to fix this mess? It would be very much appreciated.

yeah not sure, what the exact problem is as I have a 98 but I would definitely recheck all fuses under your dash and check the ones in the engine bay. As long as you used two wire harnesses and color matched the wires when you put the headuntpit in, there should be no problems there.

If you find a blown fuse, replace it with the same amp rating and see if it blows again. if so, let us which fuse and we can troubleshoot from there. To check fuses, if you don't know how, you can pull out each fuse and check the little wire that spans the fuse, or if you know how to use a multimeter you can check for continuity, or you can get a fuse checker, with extra fuses, from auto zone or advanced just make sure you get the mini fuses. Good Luck

fixed it, ended up being the "small light" fuse was blown. Apparently "small light" controls the center console lights, side marker lights, and tail lights... good to know. The light that was out in the first place is still out though, but I think that might have literally just gone out so I'll just try to replace it soon. Thanks for the suggestions guys-

Glad to hear you got it fixed. I know it seems that a fuse should control like one thing but usually have several circuits on it. My buddy blew his radio fuse in his saturn and he lost gauges, backup lights, and all interior lights bc of a 15 amp fuse for the radio

Re: HELP!!! lights not working, battery draining...

i had a similar problem, although not nearly as bad, when I installed my kenwood headunit. The glow lights for the AC and recirculation buttons just stopped working, but the buttons and indicator lights still work.

I'm assuming the LEDs got burned out. I wanted to switch everything to white/blue anyway.

hmmm, not a bad idea. Did you do that, and if so how does it look?
