I have a 99 civic hx do i go with h1/h2/h3/h4...i checked on the forums and couldn't find it anywhere....

is xenon any good? which hid is the best brand?

the fact that you ask "is xenon good" indicates that you have no clue about this subject and need to do some mroe research before you attempt to buy and install anything

xenon is not a brand, its a type of lighting.

and ur civic uses 9003. and any brand is good, just as long as its not the cheapo ebay ones....hids is one of those things where you get what you pay for type of thing, but most of them are pretty decent now a days

mcculloch is good but a bit overpriced.

on ebay, a seller named "yourhid" sells 50w kits for about 95shipped. that is ridiculously cheap, and the quality is excellent. id get them if i were you...

but the fact, that ur gonna blind all oncoming traffic isnt such a good idea, especially with 50w ballast.

Just make sure that when you do get them you don't go higher than 8k. 6k is recommended which is your bright white. Also no matter which company you go with make sure they come with some kind of warranty. It will pay off in the long run.

i would put my money on mobile hid you can beat the ballest with a hammer repeatedly with no problem the are the toughest most durable hids ive ever seen and the bulb itself is manufactured the same size as your stock bulb which is awsome for projectors.www.mobilehid.com or check them out on youtube.good luck

find the casper shield for the HID kits, 50w is a bit high for HID since they run at 35 watts and 44,000 volts (reason for the ballast).

Since your gonna need a bi-xenon (HI and LOW beams)

i know its alot but think you get what you pay for but definately look for the casper shield or just get H4 Projectors

I have HIDs from yourHID on ebay. They are the 50 watt ones. I am also using stock headlights reflectors and so far (about a month and a half) I have not had anyone flash their lights at me. I think they got aimed down when I wiggled then to make sure they were in.

One of my HID balists died. I don't know if that was yourHIDs fault or mine because I (trying to be quick and not thinking) mounted it right next to the engine. Thankfully the yourHID guy took it back on a warranty claim.

My point is: I think they are a great deal and you should go for them.

FYI, the yourHID instruction booklet is next to unreadable. The translation is really bad.

FYI #2, make sure to run the balists off of relays so you don't burn up your stock wiring.

And also something i didnt see mentioned here, Xenon is not a brand, i did hear someone say that, but Xenon is the gas inside if the bulb. an electrical arc is created inside the bulb, rather than flowing current through a coil.

did u run urs off of a wiring harness?

gearbox had them, they were fine. i bought gearbox's ballast, and mine are still fine.

its important to remember to not turn them off and on so fast

so about HIDs and reflector headlights, is there a bulb/kit/trick for that type of housing so there is not a lot of glare to oncoming traffic? Because I really hate that when I'm trying to make a turn and i can't see ****.

^nope. you take a risk when you buy HIDs for ur stock reflectors.

its all about the flamet position. aftermarket hid bulbs dont always have the same flamet position as the halogen...

alright well quick question, sorry for jacking your post. But since I have aftermarket projectors, will glare be a problem if I get an HID kit? I have the TYC angel eye projectors. I guess the same goes with fog lights as well. I have m3 fog projectors, will HIDs work in them as well? Thanks.

well like i said on page one www.mobilehid.com manufacturers there hid bulbs the same size as your stock to have the same light scatter effect and for proper fitment.

no way to tell for sure. there were pics floating around before either here or at HID planet of an H1 HID kit in TYC projectors and the light was so scattered that it was less output than halogens. could be the same on your fogs. the best fog projectors for HID's are the blazers that take the 800 series bulbs. every pic i've seen of fogs with H3 bulbs have had horrible output.

Yeah, thats what I'm afraid of. I figure they are so bright now with knock off halogens that just upgrading them should be enough for me. Also I head that HIDs actually use less power then halogens? is this true? And have you been getting my pm's electric?

yes they do. there's some efficiency loss with the ballast, but overall, the halogens use ~55w and HID's use ~35w. unless you go with 50w HID's.

I made my own harness. I used some extra wire I had around. Don't worry, I checked the gauge.

I didn't turn them on and off a lot. I just had a bad one or it might be that it was zip-tied to the power steering line next the head (i know that was a dumb idea). I hope that slow boat to china gets there soon. lol.

yes, you still need a relay harness. your stock wiring was designed to handle ~15A max, and ~11A continuous (on high beam). the PNP ballasts i have draw 13A each during startup (i put an amp clamp on them). so that's 26A. your stock wiring cannot handle that and over time will start to get damaged and maybe lead to an electrical fire. my low beam ballasts are on separate relays and fuses at 15A each with 14ga wire. my fog lights are on a single relay and single fuse at 30A with 10ga wire going to the ballasts. the 10ga is sized due to the 30A fuse to handle both ballasts.

Casper Shield for H4 if your running that way. Thats the only way to reduce glare and its your best bet unless you wanna do what ive seen people do which is tint you headlights, but then your not gonna pass inspection, and it looks retarded
