kinda of a big problem

ok i go through new batterys like it's candy. I dont drive the car so it sits up, my problem is i left the car with the new battery hooked up mon. and now i try to go start it fri and the damn thing is dead. the weather has been right about in the 50's. does your battery really die that fast if you dont drive it??? or could my car some how be drawing power from somewhere?

Re: kinda of a big problem

is your trunk or dome light on? that will drain it.

usualy with evreyting closed up and evreyting off the nominal "parasidic draw" of the battery should be ~50ma. thats .05 of an amp.

find the amp hour of your battery (stock is 47AH) and do the math. u got a 1 amp draw the battery should last at least 47 hours or almost 2 days.

at the above parasidic draw the battery will last 940 hours or 39.16 days.

Do you have an alarm? The flashing security light has enough drain to kill the battery on my jetta in a week.

There are two led's, driver and passenger door but thats what I thought too.I've left the battery connected twice now and went out of town.First time was 10 days second time 7 and she was dead when i got back both times.Keep in mind Im assuming it was the lights I could be wrong and just have a similar problem.

Re: kinda of a big problem

at our Mazda-Subaru dealership, the Mazda Mazda6 cars die off on a weekly basis... well, with the amount of cars we have there, we're probably charging the batteries in the cars once every two weeks...and that's just unlocking and locking the cars up each day....even WITh the occasional lot party (rearrange the cars, so the cars are running then)

Re: kinda of a big problem

you have a short somewhere that is draining power from the battery while the car is off. those are hard to find man, i suggest calling up an electrician or a good local shop.

i've had my car sitting for 8 weeks with the alarm LED flashing while i was deployed and my car started right up. i'd say you've got something else drawing power. not even a superflux LED would draw enough to kill a battery in a week. multiples? maybe, but you'd have to have about 10 superflux's on. regular LED's? probably 30 or more.
