my radio issue

well i bought my 04 civic coupe in september

when i bought it everything looked good except the cd player sucks big time. i believe who ever put the wiring in the cd player mest up because every time i press the button for my defroster the radio gets static on every station. do u think its just the wiring because i have never heard of this happening before. another thing is when im listening to a cd i make a fairly normal right turn and then the cd skips....i dont hit a bump or anything it just skips. should i just get a new cd player?

Re: my radio issue

sounds screwy....

radio - defroster thing could be something with the rear window wiring stuff.... since our antenna is in the top portion of the rear window (you can see the seperation in 'lines/wires' in the glass itself. the radio antenna is the top 8 inches or so...

so the antenna wires may actually be cracked/broken, causing the static from the heat or pulses coming from the rear defroster...

but as for the right turn thing... i don't know. i'm guessing your radio is aftermarket, since you said that someone installed it and screwed the wiring. did they use a harness? or hardwire/cut wires? got some pics to share of the wiring?

It is not nice to see this stuff at all. It sucks to know that someone put in an aftermarket radio improperly and now he has to deal with it.

ON TOPIC.

What brand radio is it?
Is it secured in the dash, can you move it around?
Does it skip when you use legit cd's or just burnt ones?
Do you have any other electrical issues with dash lights or anything?

Re: my radio issue

That whole defroster/static definitely sounds like RFI (radio frequency interference). Its caused by electrical current going through anything (i.e the wires running to the rear heat strips) and becomes prevalent when that current is not isolated through insulation or the antenna wire may have lost its insulation. Taking right turns and making a cd skip, youve got a case of shitty cd player. Does it just skip, or does it cut on and off intermittently? If it was doing that, I might would guess you have a bad ground and when u turn right it moves the wire causing the problem. Id say go for the new cdplayer idea. As for the CEL coming on and off all the time, have u scanned it to see what codes it may be throwing?

Re: my radio issue

do you have a coupe or sedan? i get similar static from my aftermarket head unit when my ebay HID fog lights are on. my OEM low beam HID's don't cause static. only the ebay HID's.

Re: my radio issue

OK...who the hell still listens to the radio haha. Just get a new unit and attach an ipod to it, no static or commercials.

Re: my radio issue

Yeah, sounds like a wiring problem. They probably grounded too much stuff to the same place, and thus, creating a ground loop that interferes with other electronic devices. I've come across situations where static may come from defroster and pressing the throttle, but never steering. Just throw that one out, and have the new one professionally installed.
