About Alpine DVD Navigation System

How do they work? Are they just like Lexus's Acura's BMWs, Benz?
How do they pinpoint your location?
Do they have their own satellite system to do this..?

Random, but just interested. It's on my wish list hahaha

I think they are touch screen....and they use the same method that a handheld GPS uses to get your location.

All the GPS systems hare satellites. One or more companies own the satellites and they charge other companies to be able to use them. At least that's how understood it. And not all OEM nav systems are touchscreen. Most have a little joystick to move the cursor on the screen. The touch screen is reserved for the best of vehicles...

Umm.....I'm sure the GPS satelites were put up by the military. Anyone can use GPS as long as they have a reciever. You don't have to pay a fee to use a Garmin(sp) GPS. When you get one of those complicated systems you end up paying for stuff like 'On-Star'. And that ties your GPS location in with a cell phone so an operator knows where you are and can send you assistance. And now the military freqencies have been releaced to the public so any new GPS systems have an accuracy of a couple feet instead yards.
