Amp Setup

So I'm planning on overhauling my sound system in my 01 civic coupe this summer, and I was wondering how much my stock battery and alternator can handle. The plan is an alpine pdx-4.100 (4 channel 100w) for my interior speakers and an alpine mrp-m1000 (mono 1000w) for my sub. This should still be ok on the stock alternator and battery, right?

Thanks,

Elix1r

Re: Amp Setup

I'm pushing out a little more than that and I needed to upgrade my battery. It just was not holding up. I got a Stinger SPV35.

Re: Amp Setup

it'll be fine. you don't NEED to upgrade, you can. but it's not like your stock components won't be able to power it.

it's all up to you.

Re: Amp Setup

in the long run it could be a wise decision. dont rush into it though, just whenever you feel it necessary its always a good idea to upgrade alternator when pushing over a 1000 watts.

Re: Amp Setup

i would HIGHLY recommend the upgrade, people say it wont be too bad, but yes, yes it will suck without an upgrade, if i really giv'r on my subs, (i have about 500-600 rms) everything will dim down, i cant imagine 1000 watts with a stock alternator, your going to toast it quickly, and anyways, your going to get a much better response if you go to an audio specific forum like

www.canadiancaraudio.com
guys here are cool, and very knowledgeable, they will help you out much better than here

stock alt = 70A max output

70A * 12v = 840watts max output.

so 110w for low beam headlights. at least 100w more for all other lighting at night. probably at least 200w for other car operations (ignition, fuel pump, fans, etc) and you can see that the power remaining for additional audio add ons runs out quick.

EXACTLY, stock alternator was built just for the car as it rolled off the assembly line, it was NOT designed for high power stereo systems and such (underglow neon tubes, led washer nozzles, neon exhaust ring, etc. haha) and i see capacitors as band aids, they dont solve a dam thing, they merely attempt to cover the problem up. If you intend to run your amp to optimal performance you WILL need a new alt., new battery/additional battery would be best, and a big 3 ground upgrade, plus anything else i may have missed. You cant just buy a amazing amp chuck it in the car and expect optimal bass-age, you need to do other upgrades besides simply a cap.
