If I changed my OEM Headunit....
Would I still be prompted for the security code needed when the battery is reset? I recently sold a muffler, and was thinking.. why the hell not. I might just go to best buy and pick up one of their Sony receivers for 100 bucks like this one:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....#productdetail
Ive been wanting to get my ipod hooked up to my car as well, I could install it myself.. all i would need is the dashkit and wiring harness..
Whatd you guys think? Any input and answeres greatly appreciated

the security code is an option in the stock head unit. you wont have security code. if you get the stuff from the store, best buy usually has free installation.

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
if your going to expand your stereo, getting low power wont matter. Just be sure to get one with lots of pre-outs. At first all I wanted was a nice stereo, so I bought my $200 Alpine (a lot for my 16 year old self) with 18 RMS x4 and 50x4 peak. Stock Speakers: 12-15RMS, 45Maxx. I blew my fronts pretty quickly. So now I have amped alpines in the doors and I wanted more bass so I got subs. Im now $1000 into my stereo. lol. Focus on the end result.

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
I say do it if you really want to hook up your ipod to your deck. Also, why get that deck, when you can get this one. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...IP&c=3&tp=5684
Its got a built in ipod attachment. With the deck you posted, you need to buy an ipod adapter.
If your only concern is to hook up your ipod, buy this deck. If you are concern with SQ, I'd suggest other brands. Alpine, Pioneer, and JVC isn't bad.

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
ive actually had my system and speakers running off of my oem unit for quite some time now.. about 2 years im guessing. its been great for me, im not looking for an amazing sound change or to expand my system. ive upgraded my speakers, and ive had my sub amp combo hooked up via a converter. i just figured i might as well get a deck, to support an ipod and to not have anymore code issues.. once and for all you know?
and with the second link i posted, that deck doesnt need an ipod adaptor. It only needs one if you plan to use the deck as a MOC. I can control the ipod..from the ipod, i dont need to use the deck for that. Itll do the same thing as the other one you posted, and for 20 bucks more, i think its probably worth it. it looks nicer, and its got the usb thing.. and i dunno..
whatd u think?
edit: can somebody please review the last link i posted and verify that you CAN use an ipod without the adapter, however cannot use the deck as a means of control. I think you can still connect it and use it and listen to it through the deck, but you cannoy control it, with the buttons on the deck. Am I wrong??

For the same price, why don't you get this one? This is a pretty old model, but it'll do much better than the Sony in the long run.

When it comes to cars, stay away from Sony. The alpine will give you much better SQ. This one has a connection for an ipod adapter in the back, but an ipod controller unit (which lets you control the ipod from your deck) will run you $100+. However, the front has an aux input. You can get this cable for like $10 and connect it from your ipod to the deck. You can't control it from the deck, but it beats spending $100 bucks.

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
if you run speakers directly from the new deck, be sure you do the power/ground wire upgrade mod it makes a noticable difference esp with the alpines. it will use the extra power. i only have tweeters hooked to my alpine, but when i did the mod, i had to turn down my treble by 1db cause they were so much louder.

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
where can i find that mod gearbox?
also another big reason i wanted the sony, was just a dumb pet-peave of mine. most the ones ive seen had a green display or something other than the orange-redish color on our dashes.. i duno i just think it looks tacky, but that one FALLOUT posted looks pretty neat.. i may just opt for that one

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
instead of using the factory civic harness for power wire (yellow/batt) and black (ground), run new thicker wires directly from the deck harness to the battery + and chassis ground. just for those two wire tho, thats how the deck gets its power. the ign ignition wire is just a trigger and you are fine using the stock harness for that. the batt and ground wires are just too tiny for a hi power deck. and the factory ground location isnt the greatest either.

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
i have the 9847 and it has an amber and a green mode, and a couple other combo colors. really nice for 200 straight from the store. and cheaper decks are just as good. you dont need a bunch of preouts if you never plan to amp the speakers.

then i think im just going to stick with this one. Ill keep my subs/amp and just connect them from the one set of the 2 pre-amp outputs. I actually already have that aux cable for my ipod. I got one with my iHome. Its actually the same cable. So I think i'll be ok. Thanks guys. Alpine ftw!!

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
that one you posted looks good. and to be honest, cheap alpines sound just as good as the expensive ones. all i have is treble and bass adjusters and thats really all you need.

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
Try sonicelectronix.com
They give free installation kits and a wire harness with every headunit. I recommend Pioneer. The headunit I got was $400 but they have some that are a lot cheaper.

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
ok after looking thru that one site, ive found this:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...+CDE-9873.html
now can somebody tell me whats the difference between that 9873 model and the 9874 model that i posted back from Crutchfield.com? This one:
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...ures_and_specs
The 9873 model is $30.00 cheaper!! Why wouldnt I just go with that one, I cant see any major differences, can anyone figure this out??
EDIT: The one from SonicElectronix doesnt include free shipping, so it totals to 137.31 lol ok so its $10.00 cheaper. Still, should I go with that one and save the 10 bucks??

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
Well for one thing, the 9873 does not have a front aux input. Reading more on the fine print, it doesn't have an aux input at all! So therefore, you would not be able to use your ipod. You would have to spend $30 to buy the ipod adapter , which would cost you an extra $20+ including shipping for both.

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
I would always go for this one dude !!!
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....1&type=product
I might get this one next month. My brother replaced his 04 Camry's OEM system with this Kenwood. Let me tell u this. Me and my bro went to get the Head unit and Aftermarket speakers. But when we chose this deck, the sales guy told us not to buy after market speakers right now and just get the HEadunit. After the installation, we were surprised as hell!!!
The salesman saved us like 200 bucks in speakers coz we thought the OEM ones had blown. But only this Kenwood like gave a new life to those speakers :-)

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
I rolled with just an older model of that kenwood deck for a couple of weeks before I got my speakers put in and lets just say those speakers were shot. Im betting camry speakers are slightly better than civic speakers are.

Re: If I changed my OEM Headunit....
thats the key. older kenwood. their newer stuff is junk. my first deck was kenwood actually, when they still had those cool triangle power buttons and clean looking black decks.
