I've never seen this box before, does anyone know anything about this box/what type of music is it best suited for?

its just basicly a bandpass. it may look kinda cool but it probably sounds like [IMG]i/expressions/moon.gif[/IMG]

Sorry.....I have heard ones like that, and they are ok, but not as good as a sealed box.

looks kinda cool except for the subs in it.. probably sounds kinda crappy.. will not play low low bass well..

I Hate hearing this. Ported enclosures as well as passive Radiator designs can sound as good if not better than seaed enclosures if they are tuned properly. Which is why 99% of all home theater and Studio equipemnt use Ported or Passive Radiator setups.. Most nightclubs and such do use Bandpasses though just for it's added output.

Ok mohawk.....but being a newbie to sound stuff, I have always liked the sealed enclosures...say, how does one "tune" a box anyway???

by tuning I eman the airspace in the enclosure, the size of the port, the tuning of the port in hertz.. A Small ported enclosure with say a 3" Aeroport will still bet very tight, play really low...much better than sealed, and about 3 decibels louder. However if the sub has high excursion you have some port noise when you crank it..( a Whistleing sound from the ports trying to move too much air)..but you can ue a sub with less excursion and get the same SPL #'s and some higher excusrion subs in seled setups.

Yeah, I follow that concept, but how do you tune the box? Port size? Volume? I mean, if you want to tune it to a certain frequency, how do you do that? How can you tell you have it tuned to that frequency? Do you need special equipment? Do subs come with specs recommending this? Lotsa questions, but I am just curious.....

It's called Math [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]..

I don't do things the hard way though. You can download a program for free called WINisd by team linear. Play around a bit and you'llsee how port size and length affect enclosures of different volumes..(for basic understanding)
