i sure hope they dont charge for navi, that would suck considering the satellite link is free. actually pioneer usually makes speakers for honda, and panasonic made the special edition cd/mp3 player. not sure on the old decks it might be true, but they still suck. power output is maybe 5-10w rms per channel.

bose, clarion, pioneer, alpine..theyve all made components for honda. there is no monthly charge for gps.
06 and 07 Civic has the Navigation system directly from Alpine, where the DVD also says "Alpine whatever". The system is basically an IVA-W200 with navigation integrated to it but without DVD playback capability. Everything works the same as the IVA-W200 (same spec also), as to the bluetooth, iPod link, etc. I think the POWER RATING is also EQUAL to the IVA-W200.
I think the crappy speakers are made from Pioneers, as they are extremely cheap Mexico products.
01-05 Civic headunits are made by Alpine except SE model in 2005. Speakers are from Pioneer.
96-00 Civic headunits are from Mitsushita, speakers are from Pioneer also.

i wonder why the 01-05 decks are so inferior and underpowered? you would think it would be comparable to aftermarket. and how does the new si stereo work with the sub in there. rca?
I do NOT think any OEM system can compare to a moderate quality parts and properly installed and tuned sound system. The reason why the advertise the stereo with a sub is because they want to sell it for more. Most ppl just look at what parts they are getting without actually knowing what quality they are to get. I've sit in a hybrid before, where Honda finally moved the tweeter up to the dash. The sound still sucks. So I believe that if Si has a subwoofer, the sound will be even sucker (but to some, it's a lot better).

have you listened to jetta monsoon sound system? pretty darn good if you ask me. lexus isnt bad either. i know aftermarket will always be better, but i also think 01-05 civic has one of the worst sound systems ive ever heard. when i first got the car i thought okay im finally gonna have decent radio. wrong haha
Well, it really depends....If you really gets into music, then probably the best factory system won't make you satisfied (just like me). You will want anything that is crappy and the least parts installed when you take out the car from dealer. Then you do everything you like from scratch. This is another reason why I don't like buying a Lexus, Acura, VW, or whatever, just because of the sound system. I don't care how people see what I am driving, but I like the pleasure of something being done in the car, by myself--to show the talent of how I can make something extremely bad to become exceptionally good, instead of having everything pre-installed, and say "OK, this is the standard feature".
Currently I am trying to finish up 5.1 system. Trying to find a small speaker that I can mount behind the mirror, facing the lower part of the windshield.

There is still a cost for gps, you need updating software b/c as roads increase or exits change or highways change you need updates which can cost upwards of 150.00. They aren't necessary, but depending on where you are changes can be frequent and your gps will become less precise unless you update the software.

i think i might get one to connect to my iva-w200, i suck at directions
Blackbird is pretty convenient IF and ONLY IF you do use it for different cars. Because you own a compatible monitor doesn't mean Blackbird will be the best. You will never know when they stop making software updates. But a DVD-ROM, it is always there because more and more people will use it.
eh, anyways, its my only option for navi, this or the $2,000 dvdbased attatchment and i dont want to have something sticking on the window, i've seriosly done hours of research on this thing, so i'm pretty sure its worth the money, 500+200 for cradle
