Rep Power: 265 Memphis audio is on the west coast. I have seen it for the past 4 years. As far as whats better? Go listen. Its all what sounds good to you. I am not saying that to be a jerk I am saying it because I have seen a husband love a speaker and the wife say it is tinny or the other way around.

Rep Power: 223 it might be on the west coast but it for sure is not as big as on the east coast, I would love to go listen to it but all the shops that I go to carry JL rather then Memphis, I am just looking for a general consensus and I for sure get your point on it being different for everyone

Rep Power: 0 As far as popularity, I’ve experienced the power of JL audio and can vouch for their high end. I’ve heard and read about Memphis audio, but I don’t know of anyone that has used their products.

Rep Power: 232 my brother in law has 2 memphis 12's on 1000 watts and all memphis components and it pounds. the mids are so ****in clear. i would prefer a jl w6 or w7 over memphis though. ive got 2 12" JLW0's in my vic on a 300 watt monoblock and i love it. not too loud, not too quiet. but like nick said, its all about what you like. but if you dont have access to memphis, i personally wouldnt have their products shipped across the country if i had access to JL.

Rep Power: 262 JL gets my vote. When I didn't have an amp, I used my bro's 300 watt rms kenwood, and it would sound ok. Plus I would have the gain turned up pretty high, about 80%-85%. Now I have a JL/250, and I love it. It sounds cleaner, and pounds harder than the kenwood I used to run.
The JL is rated @ 250 wrms, and Kenwood was 300 wrms@ 4 ohms. I have my gain setup at about 45%-50% on my JL. My amp never turns off, always runs no matter how hot it is. My old Sony amp used to turn off after a while because it got too hot. I've run this amp through the cold winters, and hot summer, no problems whatever so ever. Output sound is also clean as well.
JL is a little on the pricey side, but I think its well worth it. I've never heard anyone that owns a JL product tell me its crap.
Another vote for JL.
As for Memphis, I can't really say if its bad or good, because I've never used their products.
