New Pioneer HU and amp/speakers
New Pioneer HU and amp/speakers
Hey guys, I am getting a new Pioneer 6800 Mp3/cd HU for my 2002 Civic Ex coupe. I used to do alot of stereo/amp/sub installs back in my day (15-18 years ago). Anyway, I see that front speakers have tweeters up by the mirrors and then the front speakers in the door. If a guy puts a 4 channel amp in and amp the front/back speakers are the tweeters connected to the front speakers with a builtin crossover?? Or are they seperate "set" of speakers? My plan was going to be 2 channel (bridged) for 10" sub and then 4 channel for the front/rear speakers. Thanks for the info.... CC
I have a sedan (no tweeter), but from what I've read here before, you are essentially correct. There's not really a crossover...just a capacitor in-line with the tweeter that acts as a bass/mid blocker...but as long as you tap into the factory front speaker wires somewhere outside of the door (i.e. before it splits off to the mid and tweeter), you can drive both of them with one channel.
If you want a recommendation, I'd just get one four channel amp...bridge two of them to drive the sub and use the other two to drive the front speakers. Drive the rear speakers with the head unit since they don't need to be very loud (or there at all, many would say). Use the money you saved not buying a second amp to upgrade the stock front speakers to a decent set of component speakers with a real crossover.
