Wiring Question?
Lowering the ohm load is done buy running your speakers parallel (all postitives connected together and all negatives connected together). I.E. if you have two 4ohm single voice coil speakers, you run the positive from the amp to the postive on each speaker and the same with the negative. Doing that will cut the ohm load in half, (2 4-ohm speakers in parallel will result in a 2-ohm load) But be careful, some amps will not handle a 2-ohm load. Read up on it, it can be a little tricky getting the ohm load you want. Sometime you series the voice coild and then parallel them to the amp, ask a local shop to show you how its done and what your amp is capable of.

yup thats basically it. so ya it's best to buy everything(amp & sub) at one time. cause different subs have different ohms and different amps can handle different ohms.
you want to try to run it at the lowest ohms so you get more for your money. ex: if your getting two regular(single voice coil) 4 ohm subs, the lowest you can get is 2 ohms. try to find an amp that is 2 ohm stable. cause if the amp is only 4 ohm stable, your either stuck with having to wire it at 8 ohms(if its a mono amp) or 4 ohms each to each channel(2 channel amp).
some subs come in both 2 ohm n 4 ohm n thats when this is helpful. cause if the amp is 2 ohm stable, you would go with 2 4 ohm subs. if the amp is 1 ohm stable, you would go with 2 2ohm subs.
