Question about In-dash DVD players
Price range is less than $700. I don't have any car experiance, so how much would installation cost me at a local circuit city? I saw a 7" pioneer in dash for 599.99 and i'm really considering. will it still work while driving? I know it's illegal but i'm just wondering, and is that my best choice for my price range?

if your talking about the pioneer avh-p5700dvd, than defenatly get it, i had it before and loved it, and miss it. i have a way more expensive HU (eclipse) right now, and the pioneer was still better. it's my second time trying a different brand of HU, and i regret it, my opinion, get that pioneer, they are my favorites in HU's. as for driving and watching movies, it's easy, but cant be discused on the forums. also, you should instal it yourself instead of getting it done, it's not alot harder to do than a regular HU, there is a DIY stickied to the top of the page, and if you need more help, we will be happy to help you.

I've owned the avh-p5700dvd as well. It was an alright HU, but I would not say great. By no means is it a bad choice. The screen is nice, that backgrounds for music is lacking because its only a blue screen. They should allow you to upload an image into the background at least. Player also has a sensor on the front face plate to determine whether its night or day.
The HU can be modified to work while driving, but I can't discuss that, nor will I tell you how to. If you want to learn, I'm pretty sure you can google it. You can't really watch and drive at the same time, so its hardly worth your time to get it work while driving. I mean you can watch it, but to be safer, its better to keep your eyes on the road. Plus its illegal to have an indash DVD player working while driving. You'll get pulled over by popo. I almost got pulled over for it once, but my windows were fogged up so popo couldn't see into my vehicle..lol.
If your going to make use of actually watching dvd's in your car, I'd suggest getting the 5700. Its a nice decent deck, but if your not going to make use of the DVD player, just stick with a regular deck.
btw, the sound is not the greatest on the 5700. My current pioneer deck (deh-p8600mp) sound quality is way better than the 5700's. When I'm talking about sound, I mean playing music. It was fine with DVD's.
I would also recommend installing the deck yourself. If your hands on type of person, use the DIY. I mean its not hard to install, but if you really don't feel confident install it, by all means, get it install by someone.

if you press the ent button right below the screen it will flip between the plain blue screen, dvd (it will show the video, but the audio will be whatever is selected, radio, ipod, etc) and a decent screen saver. this unit is pretty good for the price.

I have decided to just get a regular deck this time. I don't really see the benefits of a DVD in the car atm, except for showing off. (since it's hard to see when you're driving and who sits in a car for a long time (when it's off!!)) I'll prolly just get the coolest looking one for $200 on some local stores, thanks for the advice though guys!
