Sick and Tired of MTX sub, what now?

I'm sick an tired of my MTX 8124, had it for under a month, and i've had it exchanged once and repaired it like 5 times now. I was thinking of returning it and buying something else. like one of the new type-Rs. maybe a Type-S or a Xmax 15. what do you all think? Pushing it with a Phoenix Gold XS2500 Running Bridged at 500x1 at 4 ohms.

pretty low for now. keep in mind this is probably an temp solution anyway, till summer or so, when i get a class D amp and a IDMAX 12. So i'm looking to spend about 300 bucks. I found a 15" Xmax, used, for around 280US. Think i should jump on that? or will i not have enough juice to pound it? Another option may be a kicker 15. but i don't know what model. that would only be like 120, so i'd have no problem moving up to an IDMAX in the spring/summer.

If you can get a 12" L7 for $250 i would jump on that quick. The IDMAX is an awesome choice down the road though.

ya most places sell it for 350. but ya if i decide to get it later, i'll probably try for 200. stereo shops get things for about half of what they sell it for.

nobody like's the Xmax? I could get a solobaric L7 12 for the same as price as the Xmax 15, but i'd need a box for it too, I don't have any square boxes. although i could just cut mine....

You can get a IDMAX on ebay for $300.00. If that is what you want, then just get that from ebay.

ebay search, for idmax.

I'm in canada so by the time you tack on shipping, wait for it to get shipped, and pay duty, it may not be worth it. plus ebay can be shady. plus i want a valid warranty (although with IDMAX it shouldn't matter, but i've gone through 4 subs so far, and i've only had a system since october or something).

Nighthawk..

If it's a temp sub.. don't even bother spending that much.. Just save for the IDMAX.. or grab a pair of HED's....I'd just live with the MTX sub (unless it blew again).. if it blew I'd blow it again and grab a Pioneer IMPP (which future shop carries).. It won't take as much power..but it bumps a big harder..

Cheers

well hmmm. just an IMPP those are like $99CDN. they don't have the premiers at any futureshop I've been to. i'll tell you what's up with the MTX sub. the damn wires on to the voicecoil ripped. i fixed em over and over. and did a pretty clean solder job, but then they ripped somewhere else! i could try fixing again. but i dunno. i've been fixing it every day or two, then i soldered em at the electronics shop i have keys to and did a really good job. but then it ripped in a dif place. also, i've noticed stress marks on the cone. I have a 2yr warranty, i could put it in for warranty work. it sounds alright, but just isn't reliable.

nah, i can remove the evidence. I'll use a "Solder Sucker" plus they won't look that closely, i'll just remove my addition, which is an extention to the voice coil widers (whatever they're called), i pulled some off one of my W1 so it'd be the same wire and shiz, but anyhow. yea i think I'm good to go on this one.

First off your entitled to your opinion. But, i will guarantee you that my L7's are more accurate and punchy than the momos or the type-r which is what im guessing you were trying to type. I have nowhere near "harlem" bass. You may have heard some L7's in oversized ported enclosures, but put them in a small sealed box like i have and i will put them up against any other sub for accuracy and punchiness except for the ultimate 12" speaker the IDMAX.

IDMAX

For some reason it's not on the image Dynamics site. but anyhow. from what I've heard, these things are pretty loud, and very accurate. 1 12" IDMAX will outperform 2 JL12W3s in SPL, and the quality will be much better. but I've never actually seen or heard one. I will when i get one, but not yet.

ID hasn't updated their website since late 1999.. and they have no plans to update it soon.. you can't even get the T/S Parameters off their site for the IDMAX.. but yes.. it will outperform a pair of JL12W3's in both sound quality and SPL.. Vtek.. just get a DVC 4 ohm sub for now.. wir ein series so you get an 8ohm load.. you're will put otu 250Wrms... play it safe.. no more blowing subs.

Cheers

Dude must have only ehard then in high tuned Ported applications..in which no subs can sound particularly good.. the L7's won 2 world championships in Sound Quality.. one in USACi.. and one in IASCA Amateur 601+..so as far as sound goes.. It's all int he enclosure..the L7's can sound awesome or sound like bassfarts.. The Polk MoMo's are "ok" subs with a huge price tag for what you get.. the type R's are pretty good as well but there's a reason for the small price..

Cheers
