Minidiscs
Does anyone have any knowledge of or experience with minidiscs in car audio? I use them at home and was just curious how well they work in the car.
i loved minidisk before two of my decks got ganked out of my ride on two different occasions. they sounded the same as any cd in my car. and a lot of people wont mess with it because they dont know what they are. the market is limited for minidisk so most thieves wont mess with it. usually. btw, you dont live in chicago, do you?

Actually, I live right outside of Chicago. How did you know that? Im not really worried about finding media, Im more concerned about things like skipping. Also can anyone recommend a brand? I know Sony is probably the biggest pusher of MD, but Ive seen that Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, and i think Clarion also make decks. I havent been in the market for a new head unit for a few years, and Im not sure where all the brands stand next to each other.

Sony has minidisc decks and a 6 disc changer out now, and I've got the changer. Never had it skip or have a problem, and I've had it for two years.
Not sure I see the point to MD any more. With CD-R's (heh that made me think of a ricer's sticker) being like 15 cents, it's hard to think of a reason to use a lossey compression MD. I like the idea of a durable case for use in a car, but CD's aren't that hard to handle and most players can handle a few scratches.

For me, it just makes it easier, because I record mixes to MD, and then if i want them on CD I have to rerecord them onto my computer then burn a CD. And maybe its just my old head unit, but burned CDs do not track nearly as well as store bought ones, so that is why im asking.

I had an ALPINE Minidisc player in the ride. As far as sound quality goes, which i think is what your concerned with...it was as good, if not better than CD's. Honestly, I never had a problem with them. And its great to have them cuz u never have to worry bout lending out CD's and then never getting them back. As long as you have a MD recorder at home...you should be great.
