Would like to get some opinions on my setup
I am currently piecing together a sound system for my car.
This is what i have so far:
-Alpine cda-9855 head unit
-2 memphis speakers in the dash, 3 1/2"
-2 alpine type s speakers in the doors, 5 1/4"
-2 memphis speakers in the rear hatch panels, 5"x7"
I will soon be buying one Alpine type X 12" subwoofer that will be going in a custom rear seat delete.
The sub specs are:
12" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils
carbon fiber/aluminum honeycomb cone with high-roll Santoprene rubber surround
cast aluminum frame
frequency response: 23-200 Hz
power range: 500-1,000 watts RMS (500 watts per coil)
peak power handling: 3,000 watts
sensitivity: 83 dB
top-mount depth: 8-11/16"
sealed box volume: 0.65-1.25 cubic feet
ported box volume: 1.0-2.0 cubic feet
I'm also in the market for a memphis belle 16-MCH1300, 5 channel amplifier to power the sub, and the four speakers in the rear of the car.
The amp specs are:
The MCH1300 provides four 75 watt channels and an 1100 watt @ 1 ohm 5th channel. Built in crossovers feature a selectable 12 or 18dB per octave slope, and are fully variable from 40-6kHz. This makes bi-amping separates a possibility when no rear channels are used.
Will this be a good setup?? I don't know much about car audio. Do i have enough power with that amp to run the sub and the four rear speakers?
BTW, the two small speakers on the dash will be powered by the head unit.
I also see that the amp is rated a 1100 watts on the 5th channel for the sub, but its at 1 ohm, while the sub is a 4 ohm sub i believe. What does that mean? Will there be any problems?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
And can someone give me some good rep so i can play games in the arcade?

Thats a decent system. I assume you just want something that is better than stock with some added base.
You might run into problems with the amp.
Here are the power spec's
16-MCH1300
RMS Power 4 ohm
75 x 4 / 300 x 1
RMS Power 2 ohm
115 x 4 / 600 x 1
RMS Power 1 ohm
n/a / 1100 x 1
RMS Power 4 ohm bridged mono
230 x 2 / n/a
THD 2/4 ohm
0.03% / 0.5%
So, running at 4 ohm which you will most likely be, you get 75w per channel to the speakers and 300w to the sub. Where you might run into the problem is that it is dual voice coil so you need to supply power to each one. You have 2 ways to do this from 1 amp channel. You could wire it in parallel and get a 2ohm load or in series and get an 8 ohm load. You would be better off going with the 2 ohm load. The only problem is that I'm not sure if your amp will support a 4 ohm load for the 4 speakers and a 2ohm load for the sub. If it does then you will ahve no problem

Well what about the alpine type R 12" in the 2 ohm version then, which is part number SWR-1222D??
Here are the specs on that:
Impedance 2 + 2 Ohms
Dual Voice Coil:
Power Handling: 500 watts RMS, 1500 watts peak
Kevlar reinforced pulp
Rubber Surround Material
Custom cast aluminum frame with integrated perimeter venting and heat transfer plate
Frequency Response: 24 Hz - 500 Hz
Sensitivity: 87 dB
Mounting Depth: 8"
Sealed Box Volume: 0.7 - 1.0 cubic ft
Ported Box Volume: 0.75 - 1.75 cubic ft
I see that this is also a dual voice coil sub as well. Will this be a problem? And like i said, i know very little about stereos, so when you say i need to apply power to both coils, how do i go about doing that?
Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate the help.
And yes you are exactly right james, i just want something better sounding than stock, and a little more bass, thats why i'm just sticking with one sub. Plus i'm trying to keep the weight down.
Believe it or not hdave, that amp is only gonna cost me around $300, and that didn't sound too bad considering the price of other amps.

From reading the specs on your amp the only way you are going to get 1100w is by running it in MONO which I dont think you want to do since you want the other 4 speakers powered off it.
For wiring confugurations go here: http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/wo...igurations.asp
and go down to the subwoofer configuration section, you can enter the number of subs and the type (2 ohm dual voice coil, 4 ohm single voice coil, etc.) It will give you a couple of different options with the final ohm raiting.
As for your system. The lower the ohm rating the hotter your amp will run. Thic can casue problems in the long run especially if it is not stable at that load. Your safest bet is to get the Type R and run it in series. This would have the system run stable at 4 ohm. Your other 2 options involve running different amp channels at different load. Again, I am not sure if that amp is stable like that. Anyway the other 2 options are running the Type R in Parallel at 1 ohm or running the Type X in Parallel at 2 ohm.
