i have a manual trans in an 05 civic, and when I start off and the radio is on, my speakers go weee oooo weee ooo, i was told by some friends that i have to do a grounding kit like a hyper volt kit or something to get rid of this sound. Can you please help

mine did that when it was on AM sports radio..not on FM. I just assumed it was the ground. I have a new deck now and no problems....

on your amp: check the x-over: change it to LPF (if you have that option)

it's either a grounding issue with your amp OR the amp does not have very good noise isolation circuitry, which is a very common drawback of lower end amps. What amp are you running?

i had this problem...check your grounds.... if you bolted your ground wire to a painted metal source you might want to sand the paint down. also check your wire and make sure that speaker wire aren't tangled or too close to power and ground cables

we call that "alternator whine"

its generally caused by a phenomena called "ground loops"

there are several cures for ground loops, depending on where the noise is getting into your system.

you can put a power line filter on the radio. its just a big coil.
you can use an RCA filter. its a convinient box that goes inline between the radio and ampifier. seperates the ground between the radio and amplifier, which can cause problems.

you can try regrounding your gear, but its a pain in the ****. if your current grounds arent clean, disconnect them and get a good connection to your frame. if noise persists, I suggest a filter before you start grounding here and there looking for the "clean" one. more work.

dont laugh, its not unheard of

around the same RPM vtec kicks in, the alternator voltage sense relay (or whatever the heck its called!) almost always kicks in, and if thats the cause of the noise, then its totally possible to be noise free under 3500 rpm =D

gosh hi-revving becomes annoying, though!

now it only happens when the lights are on, when the lights are off, there is no whine

could be either induced noise from the headlights, or more likely a ground loop between the stereo and the headlights.

try a powerline filter on the 12 volt constant wire of your radio. if you can't find one, see if you cant just find any old inductor. you could even go to an audio shop and ask if they have any spare passive crossovers laying around that you could buy for $5. itll have an inductor you can gut out and use (hell, you could just use the whole "lowpass" section if you wanted! but just the inductor should suffice.)
