head unit question... battery abuse question...

Hey guys, I talked to the guy selling me my audio system, and I want a head unit that does the following, cd player, radio control's, and a aux input, either the front or back, hopefully back. I want the aux input so I can hook up the I-pod connector into it. Does anyone know anything about this head unit?

http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ...UseBVCookie=No

Also I wanted to run...

a radar system
Phoenix Gold 800x1 Amp
Phoenix Gold 80x4 Amp
MTX Thunder 5500 15" (2) Sub's
Phoenix Gold 6.5" speakers (4)
StreetWire Amp install kit
Alphasonik 2 way electronic crossiver
Raptor Capacitor with Digital Display 1 Farad
Car Alarm- AutoPage RS720LCD
I-pod Connecter
Head Unit
2 interior lights, 12 volts each.. I think
and 2 small electronic air horns, I think they're 12 volts each

http://www.wolo-mfg.com/spec.htm

Would this be too much to run off one battery? an Optima YellowTop

Stay away from Sony. They're garbage!! Trashy smelly garbage!! Lol.
Looks like you have a good list there. But as for the head unit, go with Alpine, they're good for the money.

I think you'll be fine with a yellow top and a cap. If not, just buy a HO alternator down the road.

Crutchfield.com has 114 different CD players (14 of them are Alpines) that fit your car, plus they'll come with the wiring harnesses, mounting kits, etc you'll need...

here's the link

you can find one WAAAY better than that Sony, especially for the price you were going to pay... hope this helps, and good luck with your purchase...

Don't let the Sony name fool you. Yeah they make TVs that lasts a lifetime, but when it comes to car audio, they have no idea what they're doing. If you have a Sony and an Alpine deck next to each other, you can hear the difference! Sony is just not in the same class in car audio.
Go the Crutchfield that usafcushman just linked above. They have you stuff there.

AlienX will become famous soon enough
stick with an alpine, then get a AiNet Aux Input $25, run a RCA to Minijack to your glove, you have a aux that you can connect anything, including your iPod. Even the lowest model Alpine will out perform sony HUs.
Another option with alpine decks is you can get the iPod module that you can control the iPod with the HU. People say its a pain in the *** to navi, but like I said, its an option.
While you getting that alpine :P get your self a blue tooth phone, and the blue tooth module for the alpine. Now you can talk and chat wirelessly via your car, and your deck will tell you who is calling you now isn't that smart.
Just my 0.02, alpine rox. I have a 9835 and I can't be any happier.

and to add to your battery question.
A yellow top is nice to have, but its the alt that will be running all your stuff. Start with a battery, if you notice problems like dimming, low voltage, a cheap solution like a cap can help, if it still presists then a HO alternator will be your next step.

if you have not bought these subs yet, i have a pair of MTX Thunder8000 15"s that i'll sell you for a great price

and yes, a Yellow Top should do the trick just fine... you may also want to look into doing the "Big 3" wiring upgrade... it's one of the few cheap/easy mods that actually do something

The new panasonics and the pioneers with a model number that ends with "mp" will have an ipod interface kit available for them. A digital connection that allows you to control your ipod from the HU. Just something to consider....

LOL I was thinking the same thing... I was looking at his list saying "good, good, good...." then I click on the link for the HU and I'm like " WTF!!!"

There are about a thousand decks that meet those specs... so look around and U can get way better HU's than that. And since ur running subs u want to get a HU with 3 outputs. 2 for the speakers (PG 80x 4 amp) and the other is a non-fading output for the sub. And for why would u need 2 15's !?!? ****! I hate people who think that bigger is better all the time w/o doing any research about anything.

You need to research ICE and find out somethings. Let me guess, you're paying someone to install it also..... its not hard at all so DIY

Thanks guys for all the options and opinions you gave me. Sorry for those that offered to sell things, I don't have much money right now..

Now I'm liking this Head-Unit alot. Would I control the radio station by the two arrows on the left hand side? What does source power mean/do?

lowsky and kyle23 I just asked a audio/visual shop owner in Texas to hook me up with a good and decent sound system. It's not like 2 15s hurt anything.

I actually have that first sony head unit and it gets the job done but with the money your already lookin to spend then definatly get an alpine or pioneer or somethin but keep in mind that the factory alpine interface sucks... so don't buy them for that.

Aaron you got to realise how big a 15'' sub is. two 12'' subs in a standard box will barely fit into a civic.

and unless you go with a custom design two 15" wont fit a double sealed box and would take up 5-6 cubic ft. of trunk space.

also the subs you picked when compared to mine can take just about the same wattage, so you may have more air being pushed around but without the extra power they will sound muffled when compared to mine

im not trying to be mean, i'm trying to help

(2) 15's will fit in a civic. But it requires a lot of space. I had the exact same setup last year, but decided to go with two 12's instead because that sh*t was just too heavy. Although (2) 15" will be brutally loud, you will not get the same sound quality as 12's. Rethink your options.

Btw. The HU you picked out will work perfectly.

Alpine is a much better choice than sony.
and i got 2 10" subs (I know they aren't that big but they put out the amount of bass i was looking for, plus i can still use more than half of my trunk)

if you want 2 subs dont go any bigger than 12" and use a ported box (aka type 2)

The 8303 just came out, smaller display than the 7301 but its color. Pretty sweet unit, and you can get sirius on it too.

When you press and hold the power button, it turns the unit on or off. When you tap the button it switches sources.... I.E. CD player, FM/AM tuner, XM.... blah blah blah.
