Amp and subs
Is there a brand of sub (and the same for amps) that you can't go wrong with regardless of what model you get? Does anyone one have any suggestions for me, i've got a profile amp powering an MTX 8000 now and I'd like to step it up a bit. I've got a 0/1 gauge power cable running to the trunk already for a system upgrade and it's all set up for (up to) 4 amps, I just don't know what the best way to go is.
I know people on here have said, and it makes sense, that if you're going to power any of your speakers that it should be the front, does this mean, however, that if i CAN power the rear and the front, that I shouldnt? And should I go with good two ways or good three ways for the front and ditch the tweet?
So many questions, so little braincells. Thanks everyone

ok you are on the right direction getting rid of that stuff. now for the rest. how much bass do you want and how much do you want to spend. if your ready to go all out then here is a good idea and where to get it cheap. ok subs. rockford power 15" get 2 of them cause they r dual 2 ohm so you will end up with a 2 ohm load. www.Carmedia1.com $349 600 retail. ok and then take a small sealed box. 1.25 but then for spkr displacement another .25 so build 2 boxes 1.5 each. now for power. Rockford bd1500 on sale last years model same as this years really www.thezeb.com 499 1200 retail. ok there is some serious quad 4 ya. now you can go with the cheaper rockford subs but they need bigger boxes. then get a 4 chanel amp and some 6 1/2 mids and highs component set. cut out that tweet you have stock cause its in the wrong spot. build a bridge over your mid in the door and put your tweet there. now just use your fader to get your imaging so it sounds like its coming from the front and the rears will just help for fill.
yeah i've had good luck with them. i play them hard and they hold up and sound good. the amp i just saw and thought was a great deal for the dollar to watt value. try and find another 1500 watt amp around that price. i had a shredder before by earthquake i thought would be junk but turned out great. i needed money so i sold it to my buddy when i did his explorer and its runnin 4 15's now and he never has a problem. check it out i built this box last summer.
for subs a good all around brand is company's like JL audio, Xtant, kicker and so on. almost all companies who make good subs also make entry level subs for the sound enthusiest on a budget. depending on what you want to spend you can get some great subs like some jl audio w3's or w7's, kickers solobarics, or even some Image Dynamics. basically with subs you should buy what sounds good to you.
for amps theres tons of brands for amps to buy just stay away from the profile, pyramid and so on names. check out jbl, jl audio, xtant, mtx, crossfire, zapco, and memphis for amps
hope this helps

All great advice, thanks loads. My only concern, Ben, is that all that would kill my budget. I'm not looking to enter any contests or anything, I just want an okay system that wont embarass me in front of my friends. Thanks for all the input, keep it coming!
ok you had me lost when u said you ran 0/1 wire. sounded 2 me like you were ready for some serious bang. so my next opinon would be get an hx2 15 around 180 for 1 and then get a "good" amp what is your budget after 180 minus ??? and whose building the box . you could do that for like 30 bucks if you have the tools. so how much do you have to spend on amp for sub?? here's a pic of my 1 15 in my 2dr trunk. it was a hx2 i just got the power but i'm selling that box and a brand new hx2 15 and the mdf floor board for 350 if you live near fl

What about this, which would be the best of the two:
two Cerwin Vega HED-12SVC 12" subs
or
one RF Punch RFz2415 15" sub
Figure this mounted on a false floor in the sparetire well. Thanks for your input

check what size box you need for both there is not that much room down there and you have to have a perfect box. plus small sealed box's need lots of power. big ported boxes are way more efficient and don't need as much. a bad box = bad sound. do your homework on your subs.
Also don't forget to figure out what ohm you will be running and with what amp. most mono amps are stable for 2 ohms so make sure your sub's equal out to the same. some amps are stable down to 1 and even less like MMATS but some amps will fry at under 4 so be carefull and try to buy yours subs and amp at the same time so you have a good match. i still say get that rockford bd1500 for 499 and it being worth 1200 and puts out 1500 watts. you won't ever have to think twice about it again or worry about an upgrade or anything it can't hurt to have extra power. Most people blow there speakers clipping them by trying to push a lil amp too hard and sending out a bad signal not from an amp being too powerful cause thats clean power. so think about what its worth in the long run. just save up an xtra month and get the good stuff!!!
