Alpine Type R Boxes
Alright i need a little help. Im looking at building a custom box to fit my trunk for 2 10' Alpine Type R's. Ive been reasearching this sight for way too long, but ive come up with a lot of good info. I was wondering which type of box i should go with. Sealed, or ported or Bandpass4 or 6? Or what ever.. Ive got a lot of math to figure out for each one. And i want it to sound, as well as look good. Just any personal opinions would help, and pictures of past experinces would be welcome too. Thanks in advance!

From testing i have done, Type R's sound good in ported box with a lower tuning frequency. I tested sealed and ported with different tuning frequencies and got very clean and accurate bass.
it hits harder with the subs and port facing the rear bumper. I have 2 of the older type r 12'' in a sealed box and it hits HARD. i know this is a stupid measure but even in a sealed box which should give you the best quality with the least volume i can get the cars in my rear view mirrow to triple in size when it hits. It will shake your hair and make your chest hurt. Dynamat your trunk lid!
yes it will. you can do that with any sub. Its dumb it wont sound as well as it could. Also it will be like altezzas, 2 months later you will look at them and realize how bad it looks. just make sure you reverse the wiring if you do.

You don't see the difference between the bottom two pictures then. Look at the back of the box. Each side has a slot port firing sideways. Even with driver displacement 4.1 cu ft for a sealed box would sound horrible.
Hey
Go SEALED,,, better sound... if u want booming crazy LOUD, PORTED...
, never tried bandpass, I heard u lose all the quality of the music from a band-pass box...
check out my pic, I inverted my subs and go mrd1005 .. its loud , and I can still go LOUDER. my back seats are folded down on my sedan.
watever u do, do it ONCE.

Rufus, that install is a pretty neat idea. I never even thought about making a second floor so to speak.. cool stuff. Only bad part is that your trunk is now useless (unless you get some good, strong covers).

Wow, thats another nice set up there T. I just got a speaker box program that shows me all kinds of goodies. I just have two questions. What is Qms and Qes stand for? And What is the Q of the speaker?

I heard someone once say bandpass boxes are for sh!tty subs.. not sure if its true or not, but most subs i've seen come in bandpass boxes have been ****.
all the quality subs i've seen either come in sealed or ported boxes.
I have 1 10" typeR in a ported box. wish I had 2 10s tho.
I got sick of all the weight from my 2 12s to I went with 1 10... its fine for daily use but sometimes i want to crank it and it just isnt the same as 2 subs, let alone 2 12s.

I think the next box I buy will be from Nolte Audio (formerly powered4sound)
I've never made a box before and I dont think I'd end up with anything worth my time. besides I've never had a generic box that sounded bad to me, all the ones I've owned have always been decent.
