Unhappy Help!!?!!!

So I tried removing the factory stereo head unit to replace it with my Sony head unit from another car. (This may be where I made the stupidest mistake ever) I cut the wires going to the Honda's stereo harness and re-wired them to connect with the harness from my Sony headunit. After connecting all the wires, I put my keys in the ignition and turned the power on, but radio didn't start. To make matters worse, when I turn the power on (accessory II), the needles on my display for RPM's, MPH, gas, etc rattle up and down for about 5 seconds before they settle down, and then the gas needle goes up to the appropriate level. The car starts up fine as well, the only problem is with the electrical portion of the car, mainly the radio. When I turn the car off and take the key out, I can't lock or unlock my doors using the automatic door buttons, I have to do it manually. My keyless entry no longer works as well.

In a bit of panic, I reconnected the wires from the car to the Honda's faceplate harness, matching all the colors as they originally were configured before I cut them. But the problem does not go away, and the same thing happens even with my Honda stereo.

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!

maybe you blew some fuse. the needles usually only do that rattle thing when power has been disconnected from them (like disconnecting the battery). if you connected everything back, it should work unless you messed up something.

sounds like you blew the fuse for the door locks and you might have a problem w/ your power or ground for your instrument cluster. check fuses first though.

i never understood why people are in such a rush to ust cut wires rather than buying the appropiate harnesses for their car.

harness = $15
car = $5000+ (if its anything good)

yeah replacing a harness can be very pricey, i'm talking about a full harness if you fried any wires from running to much amps into the harness. flag a pretty good amount of hours from a dealership for that but i don't think that's your problem cause nothing would have been working. good luck

zen_master is on a distinguished road
honestly, its is very unfortunate to hear that you actually cut the original harness. however, its been done and you can't turn back the time.

Like everybody said, check the fuses first......the one under the hood and those under the steering wheel........if you can cure the problem, it's probably better if you manage to fix the original honda wiring back neatly.....

speaking of which.....last summer i had one of the worst problem that you can ever imagine.....a whole set of wiring running from inside to the engine bay (right side) got burnt.........it's a very long story..........

ANYWAY, the cost to replace that wiring is about $300 for parts and your also looking about $700 for labor......since they've to take out everything.....including the dashboard and all that............crazy you might say.....and yes indeed.

I hope you can fix the problem without a hitch though.....and let this be a good lesson...

thats nothing. my dad's 1993 mercedes 300E had to have its main harness replaced this year. $700 for the harness and $2300 for labor.

It was a fuse, thank God.
I checked the interior fuse box but all wer ok.
It wasn't until I checked the fuse box under the hood that I found the problem.

now you know

next time, buy a harness and do it right. they are cheap, if you can't afford a $15 harness then you shouldn't be risking a potentially very big problem. think of it as insurance.
