Strips a piece out of a wire so another wire can be soldered onto it? If I wanted to say, tape into a wire in my car for example. I'm trying to find something that can do this automatically, like I put the wire inside of it, pull the handle and BAM wire gets stripped.

What you are looking for is available from American Beauty company! It will remove a piece of insulation off a wire so you can solder in a tap.
The only problem is the last time I checked it was about $900

What you need is a tap its a plastic piece with metal on the inside. When you close it down on a wire the metal cuts through the insulation on the wire. The metal makes connection with the wire.then you just put a terminal on the other wire and plug it into the tap.Any auto parts store sells the taps and terminals together in a package. It works great and holds very tight much easier than trying to strip a spot off the wire and solder it.

if megahurtz the audio mod doesnt know what t-taps i will be very surprised. i think he wants a wire stripper that strips wires in the middle not at the end. he also wants it to only strip half the wire so there is the minimum amount of insulation lost in the process. i say buy a sharp *** pocket knife. or the 100 pack of razor blades.

Yeah I know what taps are. Believe it or not I've actually wired electrical systems before

Yes I am looking for a tool that will strip a piece of insulation from the middle of a wire, exposing the copper. Yes i own several drawers full of taps, t-taps, connectors, and everything else under the sun, but that wasn't what I was looking for now, was it?

so i called my dad. he has worked at intel as an electrical engineer for 23 years. He does actually build test equipment he doesnt just do math and run tests he builds a lot of electronics ranging from very small to stuff the size of a fridge. He was still at work where he asked 6 engineers with a combined total of 126 years of working with very expensive wire tools and they have never heard of what you want. they suggest a knife or razor blade. I didnt give up so i called an aerojet rocket scientist. thats right a rocket scientist the freakin gold standard for knowing answers. his response was "use a knife"

Me personally....I use a utility knife with a carpet blade. No worries about hacking your finger in half, and you still get the job done cleanly.

I know what your looking for, and let me tell you they are not ideal for the car inviroment. The stripper your looking for is big and bulky and is very har to get into those tight places in the car.

Use a regular stripper, just make 2 cuts where you want to solder, pull the insulation off and there you go. you now have a clean place to solder.

that what i usually do, if im feeling crafty I'll take an old soldering iron, heat the insulation till it melts and then pull it off with a pair of pliers, strips it perfectly without knicking the wire

I'm an electrician and we sometimes do that. What we do is take our wire strippers and make a cut in the insulation and do like you want to strip it just a little bit, then go to (watever lenght you want to have of stripped wire) and make another cut and move the insulation back towards the other cut. Now that small piece is loose, so you then take an ELECTRICIAN KNIFE and slide it across to remove that piece. The reason i said electrician knife, is because they are not too sharp, if you use a regular blade knife, it will probably cut into the copper wire. As for tools, i'm not aware that they make any.

A punch down tool? How would you use one of those in this situation? He isn't installing phones

I think razor blade and heat shrink tubing is the best compromise between money spend and quality of workmanship.
