Removing Face Plate?

This is a basic question but I couldn't open the DIY thread for Head Unit replacement.

I am thinking about replacing my HU. What is the best way to remove the face plate without damaging it? It must have to be pried off somehow, but I am afraid of scratching it.

Thanks.

Those retaining clips make me nervous though. Incidentally, Honda Motor Co. does not recommend stereo installation by DIYers, and recommends trained Honda technicians. The question is whether to go for the free Circuit City installation or do it myself. I have had bad luck in the past with the so called 'professional' installations. Where it comes out crooked or there are gaps, etc. They may have a more experience doing it, but I know my car, and would be more careful.

of course they recomend honda technicians, they equal more profit for honda. Dont worry about the retaining clips. Once you remove the lower plate and take out the two 8 mils, grab onto the whole center assembly and pull. right before you feel like your going to break it, its going to release. Your cars going to be a bit difficult if the center console has never been removed. You can try to use a panel popper to get the center area free, but the soft padding around the console mars easily, so only do that as a last resort
