Problem with my amp
Amp: MTX 6500D
Subs: 2 10" Alpine Type-Rs
For about a month, my amp would shut off about 1.5 hrs into my 2 hour drive for a few minutes at a time, then come back on. I should have saw this as a sign that I should look into the problem and fix it, but instead I just let it go. On my last drive home, the subs cut out and then never came back on. I checked the amp and there was some terrible smelling liquid coming out the front face where the emblem is. All 3 fuses were blown also. Now my initial speculation is that the fan in the amp stopped working so the amp continually overheated then came back on once cooled. Im also guessing that the liquid was some sort of grease or compound on the circuit board that turned to liquid from the heat? and may also be the reason that the fuses blew and the amp shut off for good?
My question is, does it sound like the amp just went bad and the solution to this problem would be to just get a new one? Or might there be a problem with the setup as it stands now where this would happen again. The system hasn't been changed in 2 years so I don't think theres anything wrong with it. I also tried just replacing the fuses on the amp, but all that did was make the amp turn on for about 5 seconds and then shut off again on power up.
Anyone that can help me out, I'd appreciate it.

Unless you spilled something on your amp, sounds like the amp overheated and the liquid you see could be glue that is used to seal the amp connections inside.
Since you have not changed anything related to your setup in 2 years, I'd bet that your amp just gave up and began to overheat, which led to shorting circuits that blew the fuses.
Sounds like it's time for a new amplifier.
