ok well i dont really kno too much bout this kinda stuff but im lookin to put a system in my car.. what do u guys suggest -something that also wont cost me too much money
i say above all get a good headunit, my preference would be alpine cause alpine has so many features to fine tune your music. as far as speakers and an amp alot of people will say its your preference, go to a store and test out the different combinations. I'm running a alpine unit w/ rocford fosgate fanatic p components hooked to a mtx amp. MTX makes great amps but they tend to be on the high price side and there are plenty of other amps to choose from. If you want some good sound i'd put components in the front and some 2 or 3 ways in the rear.
above all else if you dont really care and just want more sound. go buy some pioneer speakers tsa series for front and rear and a good deck for 100-250 then if you want more add amps and subs. theres nothing worse than spending a grip on something you never turn up to hear it potential. and trust me what i described above sounds great. i mean its not hard to make it better but its a hundred thousand times better than stock
Heres a hint, go to a high end stereo shop, pretend like you have NO idea about anything, and listen to everything they have and listen to everything the employees have to say. Dont buy anything. Go to another stereo shop, pretend like you dont know anything, repeat above process. Get an idea of what kind of music you listen to, which speakers sound best for you and so on. Then go on e-bay and realize that you can get the same stuff in the shop online for half price. Another hint, just beacuse it isnt a huge brand name that you have heard before doesnt mean it isnt good. I would check out some of Diamond Audio's D3 line and ARC Audio's KAR line. These are really high end audio companies, but they are there "lower" end parts. They will sound better than a comprable alpine or kenwood or pioneer or whatever. Brand names cost money, but dont nessecarily sound the best.
And one last thing, everyone will tell you that one certain setup sounds best, but they will never be the same speaker. A LOT of it is personal prefrence. Take everything with a couple of grains of salt and take your time. Oh yea, choosing sppropriate wires for your system is critical. Dont go buy the best ones, there is no point if the rest of your system isnt as good. A system will only sound as good as its weakest component, matching everything together (not really brands but performance wise) will provide the best results.

Some other companies you might not have heard of that produce some good to great quality product at a fraction of the cost of big name brands.
www.imagedynamics.com Image Dynamics
www.elementaldesigns.com Elemental Designs
www.adireaudio.com Adire Audio (Look at their Shiva line of subs, probably my favorite choice for budget bang)
www.respl.com Resonant Engineering
www.treodesigns.com Treo Designs
Those are all I can think of at the moment, I'm sure I've got more, just gotta remember them, as my brain is fried right now.

decide what you want from a system. If you listen to rap, you'll want a sub or two. Otherwise speakers may be enough if they're amped and tuned well. Definately stick with an alpine deck (altho I've heard eclipse/clarion/and few others are also good). And do a good job on the install. Use sound deadening around doors, rear deck, use speaker pads, seal the enclosure, etc. Install makes a world of difference.
dont forget ascendant audo (www.ascendantaudio.com/). They have some good drivers for an excellent price right now, just takes a little while to get them.
i have had alot of good experiences with the dynamat dynaxorb http://www.dynamat.cz/dynaxorb.html
