Question 2+2ohm or 4+4ohm ???

wich is better on subs, or what is the dfference between 2+2ohms and 4+4ohms? They are like the same price and almost almost idendtical...

theres a lot to this. with subs and amps though, you can get a dual voice coil sub and wire it to hold 4 ohms or 2 ohms, if you're amp can handle stereo (2 ohms) you can double its power (check with the manual) 300 @ 4ohms or 600 at 2 ohms. heres a link to crutchfield wiring diagrams.

http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/S-...rs_wiring.html

basically a Dual Voice Coil sub gives you more wiring options but the sub quality itself depends on brand, parts, etc.

the difference of which sub or wiring setup you choose has to do a lot in how much your amp can handle. check the amp and the subs manual before you decide. if you have not bought any of it yet, you can always go online and download the manuals for the products youre researching. they offer this for people that want to know things like this. look i up.

but definetly besure to choose a sub and amp that can handle each other. if not you will get many problems when you put power to it.

1.wich is better on subs?
there is no difference as far as sound quality how hard they will hit or how long they will last.

2.what is the dfference between 2+2ohms and 4+4ohms?
the difference is what ohm load you can create with them. with one dual 2 you can create a 1 ohm of resistance or 4 ohms, and with a dual 4 you can create 2 ohms or 8 ohms. if you dont understand its ok because heres a link thats tard proof http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/wiringwizard.asp

3. are like the same price and almost almost idendtical
Thats because they are. infact how many voice coils a sub has means nothing to sound if you find 2 single coil 4 ohm subs that are 500w rms its the same as finding 2 dual 2 ohm subs that are 500 watts rms or 2 dual 4 ohms that are 500 rms.

what you want to do is find out what your amp can run at. in general if you arnt spending over 500 dollars it should run at 2 ohms. so to get the most out of the amp you want to create a 2 ohm load with the subs you have. heres an easy rule of thumb if you have a 2 ohm stable amp (2)dual 2=1ch amp/(2)dual 4=2ch amp/ (1)dual2=2ch amp/(1)dual 4=1ch amp. the rms of the sub will always stay the same. but the rms of the amp will go higher the lower the ohm load goes with the subs.

wow, I got lost in the numbers... but it sounds like I should go for the 2+2 to be a bit safer

2+2 can be accepted in almost every amp in bridged mode, which produce the same power as 2 channel 2ohm added together.....4+4 are generally accepted in Class D amps which are native 2ohm....Most Class D are designed specifically for subwoofer, and have only single channel, but some ratings are showing Class D are not SQ amp...

The only thing to worry about is, you don't want a 4+4 to become 8ohm or 2+2 to be 1ohm.

the purpose of single or dual voice coils in different impedances is to give you different wiring options that will allow you to get the most power out of your amp based on an amp that is a given stability and a quantity of woofers that will need to be wired a certain way

this is true of higher end amps. lower end (cheaper) only allow stereo (2ohms) in a nonbridged state. usually label on the back of the amp tells you.

Okay i will try to explain it, i did not get it for awhile either.
ohms=resistence
more resistence= less power
1000watt amp that is rated at 2 ohms will only run 500watts at 4ohms, or atleast a lower amount of watts
The way the subs are wired, parallel, series, etc. determines the ohms, because you are changing the "track" or "route" pf electricity so some "routes" have more resistence. It also depends on the sub itself.
What you wanna do is look at wiring diagrams, and then figure out what you wanna buy. You probably want to get an amp that runs down to 1 or 2 ohms, this way you have more options.
EXAMPLE: Alot of subs are 6 ohms because they are meant to run in threes, because you can wire them in parallel at 1 ohm. But you can also run them in twos and solo, it just depends on wiring, and the number of ohms you are running may change.

Look at wiring diagrams, and this will help you understand. It is essential to get the most for your buck.

when i had dual voice coil type r's, i wired them in a parallel series. just connect use two wires, one to connect one of the red to one of the black connectors and one black to one of the red connectors. then just use another wire to run one set of connectors to the amp. i think that gives you the 2ohms

Dude look at some wiring diagrams!!!!!
You can't just start putting wires from the amp in there matching positive and negative, it is not like hooking up regular speakers.

Smile

So, I think I would do this one, so the ohms are at 2 instead of .5 (I hope Im reading this correctly), and this would mean that I would hook up just one black and red on each one and dont do anything with the other...?
would I have to use the same set on each sub; like if its [+/-,+/-] then I would do [(+/-),+/-] instead of like [(+)/-,+/(-)] ------ hope that makes sense!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2 DVC drivers with Voice Coils in Series / Parallel
Connecting the two voice coils of each driver in series (+ to -) and the drivers themselves in parallel (+ to +, etc.) will result in the following impedances:
Dual-6 Ohm Subwoofers: 6 Ohms
Dual-4 Ohm Subwoofer: 4 Ohms
Dual-2 Ohm Subwoofer: 2 Ohms
The graph is two equivalent 8-ohm driver connected to parallel, so it will be 4-ohm.....
