components, asking the pros
components, asking the pros
Hey guys.
I got my system almost complete in my car. Except I am still running off the stock components in the doors. I want to get a good set of components to replace them. So I am asking the experts. I would like a set that will fit into the stock locations, I am not into fabricating new mounts for speakers so I prefer to use the stocks whenever possible.
I was going to post the pics of what I have but the thread is locked for some reason
So what do you guys think? not looking to go TOO crazy, maybe something in the $300-500 range would be nice, but it needs to sound good. This is the last piece of my system to put in and it'll be finished.
I have done a little searching but didn't find much about this specifically. If I missed a thread kindly point me to it.
Thanks

type s r ok but not great. Diamond Audio Hex series components. I have them and can honestly say that I've never owned a better speaker. The Type R components dont even come close to the clairty that these provide. Retail $450

disagree, type-s suck *****
look at CDT, MB Quart, Phoenix Gold Ti Elite, Focal, Hertz
I have the Hertz Hi-Energy 6.5" comps and they are BEAUTIFUL sounding... only problem is that they are an uncommon brand of speaker, so good luck finding a daeler
p.s. type-r suck also, if you must buy alpine, go type-x or f#1 or nothing

I see you've got a sizeable budget, but don't know if you have an amp to run them off of. If you don't have an amp, don't waste your time unless you're going to buy an amp. Also, understand you're going to lose some of the lower octave on the midrange frequencies, as can be expected. People will say you get what you pay for, or that it's 90% install, 10 % components. neither of those are true, for the most part. The internet blew the get what you pay for out of the water, especially with ebay. Install is pretty important, but you still gotta get decent stuff.
What type of music do you listen to? What do you want out of the speakers? You like your highs harsh, or soft, want punchy crisp mids, or just want it to be loud? There are tons of questions to be answered before we can give you accurate advice. Sure, I could throw something out there and say get this, I like it, it sounds good, or I have this... But that'd be rather selfish of me and not very helpful to you.

Sorry guys I have not been on the internet much over the weekend so wasn't able to visit the thread and see the suggestions all look pretty good.
Popcorn, I do have an amp, I posted pics of my current setup in the picture thread. I should have plenty of power for the speakers. I listen mostly to rock type music, with the odd Cypress Hill or Eminem album here and there. Mostly rock, so I need a speaker that's tight and has quick response, not muddy and slow moving like bassy music would require. Besides, I have plenty of subs to take care of that end of it.
What I WANT is for it to be crystal clear, I don't have a system for the volume, I have a system for the clarity of the sound. If there is one thing I can't stand it's distortion. So I don't really need a speaker that will go loud. I don't need one with overly bright highs. I want something crisp and clear, as least as much so as I can get with the money I would spend on it.
And again, fitting into the stock locations, if possible, is important.
Thanks for helping me out everyone.
